The potato goes through a lot to be presentable in the marketplace. I love seeing good quality potatoes in the market. Thanks to all the teams that make it happen with the appropriate technology.

It's amazing how a potato [ spud ] can generate such interest. Your right there Stephen, it may be a humble plant but so many people rely on it as a stable food. Way back in the 20's very many people in Ireland perished because of the potato famine. KEEP THE COMMENTS COMING PLEASE.

I want you to go to the STATISTICS of the population of Ireland in 1840 vs today...they did live like animals (acted like it too) about that time a distant ancestor of mine in MELKSHAM even married an O'Toole gal straight from the bogs

@@terencewarner4692 Yes.. Broughton Gifford actually ... 8.5 MILLION was the population of groveling catholics in 1840
As an old potato farmer I would like more information, what varieties were you harvesting? I loved your packing house, after I lost my farm I was the floor tech in a repacking plant for ten years. We went from two carousel, spring scale baggers to two Afeldts then added two Volm weigh-er baggers. Those four machines could pack-out a semi load of ten pound bags in about 30 minutes. We had a four lane Hagen count pack machine also. We got our potatoes in bulk and had our own washing grading line. When all of them were running I was a busy guy.

I wonder if the general public realise how much work goes into prepairing this wonderful food.

It's interesting to see that you cut the spud in half. You must have realy good soil to grow such a beautiful potato.

probably becouse the customers dont want to get their handbag dirty. hehe but seriously plastic seam a bit overkill. here in norway at my foodshop the potatos that are big enogh for baking somtimes comes wrapd in aluminium foil ready to be put in the oven
Who's idea was it for supermarkets not to sell mis-shaped veg.any way? some eurocrat with nothing else to do I suspect.

Marketing. The consumer is shown the best looking product. The lower grades of potatoes can be turned into hash browns, country potatoes, tater-tots, potato chips etc.

@@grayswandir47 Yes the mis shaped potatos taste just the same but can be extra work. hehe i remember around 35 years ago kitchen duty in the military.. we had a DRUM POTATOWASHER. that peeled round potatos perfect becouse the inside of the dum was kind of like sandpaper. but misshaped potatos always had spots you had to peel by hand no matter how long they was in the maskine.

in my local foodshop in norway the baking potatos comes wrapped in aluminium foil ready to be put in the oven! but if you like you can say open it a little and add spice-salt butter. i bet same as here in norway the farmers get more than double price for the big spuds that suited for baking
