Once you learn to play him, Winston is one of the most fun characters in the game. And yes, he's a lot harder to play well than people seem to think. You can be an okay player and still get work done, due to the forgiving nature of the weapon and the barrier, but becoming really good at Winston isn't easy.

@@ElusiveNomad always have a plan, do not jump into enemy team with no focus. Try to have bubble each time you jump in. And consider setting up on high ground so that you’re able to drop in without jump pack, then have it available for instant escape for an extremely safe engage. Try to primal rage when you’re low health during an engagement as it instantly brings you back up to 1000 in the moments the enemy is trying very hard to finish you off, often extending into your melee range already. And lastly, resist the urge to primal rage during nano boost, yes it’s fun and Ana will boost you during primal sometimes anyway, but you do more dps with your base weapon, allowing you to more easily close out a team fight and saving your primal if appropriate

Awesome vid as usual! And yes Winston is actually a very hard character to play, his ult is freaking hard to manage. Sure it gives you a free out of jail card but making actual plays with it is super hard.. Shame you forgot to mention the punch cancel animation on landing though, it's also one of the mechanics of Winston that elevate the skill level of the character.. So yeah as far as tank goes for me Winston is a 3 stars difficulty tank even if he can look like a 1 star at first

Hi hello as a Winston main, a good tip is to look downwards at the enemy when you leap at the WHEN primal raging, it can even allow you to leap a little bit further if you time the SLAP with when you pass them, then when you travel your (now slightly further) leap, you have to move less distance to slap em again

I literally got into Overwatch after I saw the animated short Recall back when it first came out. Winston automatically became my favorite character and I had some difficulty getting to know how to play him at first but I didn't give up. Thanks to another KZbinr named Macro, but this video is fantastic in its own right too. Definitely helpful for anyone who wants to learn monkey. :3

Masters Winston here, For the DVA Bomb bubble you need to bubble near the start to mid part of your jump so you have enough momentum to go past your own bubble (5 meters). Andrew kept bubbling towards the end of the jump, using the jump just to get in proximity of the bomb so he's stuck along with the bomb without enough jump momentum to get out in time. So basically you always have to be aligned to shoot past where the ult is going to explode. If D.VAs ult is moving toward your team, it's easier and less risky to overshoot and bubble partway. If DVAs ult is moving away or is farther from your team, you have to remember to be in the position to be able to overshoot it. Not just land and bubble. Another tip is: you can panic ult to save yourself from the bomb. Remember DVA bomb only does at max 1000 at CLOSE proximity (as long as it's not damage boosted but no one usually damage boosts dva bomb) As long as your not extremely close to the bomb, you will survive in most cases as it will push you back far and you'll get a jump cooldown reset from ulting to get safely back to your team. Another tip (albeit niche) is you can change the trajectory of the boosting bomb with Primal. This is extremely difficult but regardless still an option. Ever since DVA had her boosters reworked to be able to be influenced by knockback more it affects the boosting bomb as well. With Winston if you're skilled with the primal rage enough you can influence the trajectory of the bomb and survive while boosting away. The timing is pretty strict though and you'll need to be close to DVA in the first place and juggle its trajectory then be able to at least start your jump away from the bomb (preferably towards the blast that'll send you to your team.) surviving on very low hp. Reminder that this is extremely niche but extremely cool to pull off in a game

From what I've seen of higher level Winstons, he's kinda like a Mix between rein and Dva in that, if you have corners to play around with your team, then you cleave the corner like rein But if that's not available or your teams not backing you up on the corner, you kinda just chill in a spot for a while until you see someone you can dive onto, get the splash and a melee in and then tase them down from there, and then literally leap back to your team and chill again. The main thing I've learnt from watching is basically don't use leap unless the target is basically guaranteed to die or you have primal, just walk your ass into the fight or to wherever you're tryna go and only use leap to punish someone using their cooldowns early, and use the shield to block cooldowns, not damage. So it's like Rein in the way you're tryna cleave corners and you wanna avoid using your charge/leap until it's really needed or guaranteed value, but Dva in the way that you're a close range high mobility Burst character. I haven't played him a lot cuz playing OW for extended times is straight up mental self abuse lmao, but when I was playing him, I found that worked pretty well. The biggest improvement was literally learning to just stop using leap constantly and just walking around Can't use primal for shit though

As a former Winston main i couldn't agree more with the video. However you left out two things that's really good to know. If you jump you can reduce your jump on pressing backwards, S on pc. Another thing that's really fun is when mercy is ressing another player you can shot it off with your bubble. It's a bit tricky but when you do it's really satisfying.

Heres a tip for winston: When you are using your primary fire you should alternate between your tesla cannon and your quick melee as it will help you save more ammo as well as output more dps. When you land your jumps you should also use your quick melee and if you do it properly you can animation cancel the melee and still do the melee damage thus making you do even more damage.
