Literally. The guy above me always sounds as if he's rearranging his furniture whilst occasionally dropping a bowling ball. It was the same with the last guy up there. Must be something written into upstairs neighbour tenancy agreements - 'You must never sit down, and must always walk around in a stomping fashion, rearranging your furniture and dropping heavy, rolling items onto the floor. Failure to do so will constitute a breach of tenancy and result in forfeiture of your security deposit.'

When I first moved out I was so excited to get my own place I never even considered people living above me. I got the first apartment I saw and I was loving it.. for a week. Until i realized the people above me STOMPED AROUND 24/7!! I mean it sounded like elephants walking around up there! When they weren't stomping around they were screaming at each other! It was a NIGHTMARE! One night I lost it and pounded on the ceiling for an hour straight yelling at the top of my lungs 🤣🤣🤣🤣 When you can't sleep it really could drive you insane. Never again.. never ever. I'll sleep under a bridge in a hurricane before I live in a building with people living above me.

Same experience here. This is my first apartment and my upstairs neighbors stomp like they have a disabillity or something. When I talked with them the only thing I got was a "better look better next time, where you move in" and "just put earplugs in your ears." I swear, I did almost something very cruel at that moment, but I kept my composure at that day. It's torture how they stomp through their apartment and act like they own that place.

You don't need a house, just train your kids to be quiet! Turn it into a game. Don’t forget inviting the cast of Stomp over to rehearse! My husband and I like to guess what kinds of balls are being dropped and rolling across their hardwood floors at 3 am. Once it was definitely a jar full of ball bearings that kept on rolling for about 30 minutes while she scrambled around and gathered them up. Then there are various sizes of bowling type balls - why she has a bocci ball AND a bowling ball she likes to drop every night, I don’t know, but such is the mystery of the upstairs neighbor with the hardwood floors and no rug.

As a person who grew up in an upstairs apartment, I very intentionally do absolutely none of these things. Upstairs apartment etiquette is second nature to me, so it completely infuriates me when other people don't follow it. It's really not hard. A nice bonus from growing up in an upstairs apartment is that the way I learned to walk is basically completely silent, so I constantly startle people when I walk up behind them, because they don't know I'm there until I say something right next them.

That usually means YOU'RE making too much noise and they're trying to remind YOU that they can hear all of your disrespectful noises. Living on the bottom floor doesn't mean you're quiet. I've had bottom floor neighbors that played fucking basketball and soccer indoors. I've had bottom neighbors that would constantly nail shit into the wall, or be constantly running back and forth, and whatever the fuck else noise they were making. And don't even get me started on the smells....I can smell every piece of shit meal they cooked like it was some third world stew made out of animal guts, every time they BBQ'd the smoke would seep into the house, even if the windows were closed.

Lmao, this is exactly how it feels when your the one living underneath A few years ago at my apartment when I used to live there was another person who lived above me at that time. They had a business which included rocks since they made them for crafts and things. So before they could use the rocks for crafts they had to smooth them out, so they had this stone roller machine shit that would tumble the rocks. And they goddamn decided to tumble the rocks at 10PM at night

My upstairs neighbor does exactly this but has the audacity to knock on my door and asked to turn my music down.

As upstairs neighbors, me and my family have a tradition where we wear metal slippers for extra loudness.
