I think the relationship between appearances and reality in in moon magic is reflection. Reflection in terms of optics is the behaviour of an object acting as a incident ray. Depending by the height of the object and the distance it might influence by the type of mirror or object that is opaque, and translucent that is reflect some for translucent but absorb or reflects all for opaque. They are many types of mirrors, as an example concave mirrors could produces a real image and converges depending of the distance and height by the rules of step they have to abide the law of Reflection. Convex produce virtual image depending also of the size and distance of the mirror. Lenses are quite we all have lenses in our eyes which allow light to travel in. Lens’s could be any shape but concave and convex are the most used. Concave normally refracts and acts by diverging( disperse the incident ray as it go through the mirror) Which convex converge and refracts through the mirror. All humans have convex eyes which make us see the object inverted in our retina into the cornea but we don’t realize it. It a way from the dragon prince Ethari could see Rayla’s reflection because as the object she is real even though it magic she does exist and is showed by the sword Ethari was crafting.

There isn't likely going to be a season 4 because season 3 was supposed to be the finally of the story of the dragon prince. There may have been more to the story except there were complications with the writers and the story was wrapped up early . But we can all hope there might be more to the dragon prince story some day .
