Well the first season of this show in Japan wasn't ever released over here in the USA. Due to Yami (Atemm) being a complete dick lol. It was pretty dark. So it's second season is our first slightly rewritten to accommodate certain elementa from season 2. Kinda makes ya wish for everything that happend in the show, they would of released a darker more mature Yu-Gi-Oh based in Egypt during Yami's time. Would make for a great reboot. What we got originally was a light hearted kid anime to sell merchandise. With a subtle nod to what happened during Yami's time with the card game and such.

I think their two backgrounds play a part. Yugi only has a few friends and his grandfather to care about while Yami was a Pharaoh ruling an empire. The morals get a lot more grey. The Pharaoh is probably a bit more used to and accepting of essentially sending people to their deaths for the greater good of the entire empire so his actions appear ruthless, as any war general or world leader has to be. It makes sense why Yami would want to win at all costs because in his world that could be the rise and fall of his empire while Yugi doesn’t want to risk anyone getting hurt achieving his goals.

I absolutely loved the duel, any that marik fights tends to be a treat, never got the whole hate towards it for the joey losing thing, its a great atestment to his strength to nearly outlast someone whos completely inhuman and moreso to nearly survive the wrath of a god (Ie he did, just wasn't awake much longer after) its also pretty good towards marik, showing both his strength and weakness in his shadow games, it gives him a great edge that won it in the end for him, but also he can't duel very well without it All and all joey got the shit beat out of him harder than most other characters in the series and still nearly won out by willpower alone

@@KylarStern244 slifer didnt need sacrifices, i think one of the anime special abilities allowed slifer to be summoned in a specific way, i think it was like discarding 5 cards or something. obelisk needed sacrifices, ra could be summoned normally but in sphere mode, without the ritual its just a ball that cant do anything. the life points and phoenix thing was also a thing but it never was used after Dark Marik was defeated (call me pretentious but i am using manga terminology to refer to Dark Marik just because Yami means dark in japanese.) Also exodia to this day is still an illegal card, because it just straight up says your opponent loses

Bandai is releasing a new modeling kit series called Ultimagear. The first model in the series will be the Millennium Puzzle coming out this October which be a full scale model after it's complete. Marik's brainwashing had to be the most terrifying part on Yugi's story in the original version. Localizing it as "being possessed" lost a lot of its meaning. Jounouchi/Joey described it very accurately: He knew exactly what was happening, he was fully aware that he was battling Yugi to death, but his mind was telling him that winning (and thus, killing him) was the only goal and the right decision, so much that he couldn't control his actions as if his survival instincts were in full charge, all while being aware of it. This is legit scary compared to the typical "muahahaha, I am the evil villain of the story and this minion is my puppet, I talk through him, FEAR ME!" shit.

Who just interrupts a very vital and potentially world ending tournament like that? Could they not have had that arc after Battle City like they did with the Dungeon Dice Monsters Arc? It's in a different continuity but the continuity Yugioh Duel Monsters is in is also the same continuity that gx is in - and gx season 4 unretcons a bit of season 0 in a blink and you'll miss it moment by confirming that characters like miho, that guy with the shock-guessing game that was one of kaiba's game masters, ushio, and risa (one of the witch triplets in that one season 0 filler episode where they poisoned yugi and gaslit tea) all existed and were duelists in domino that darkness (through trueman) killed temporarily. So thanks to gx, you can generally treat everything in season 0 that ISN'T redone (shadi going into yugi's mind, kaiba vs yugi, tea's workplace episode, etc etc) *probably* happened, with some canonical alterations like miho not being part of the main group in the DM-Arc V continuity's version of events.

I have almost never watched Yu Gi Oh (original) i watched PD and GX but never the first one i know Kazuki Takahashi passed away on 4th of july, rest in piece, but i still watched this and i brought some memories back and i never knew that there was a movie or episode in which all 3 of them were together, thats actually what i imagined most of my life, i feel sad tho that i didnt watch it before mr. Kazuki passed away. Thanks for making the video (i know i am late ;-;)
