The Life-Sized City

Күн бұрын

A rose among the thorns in South American cities, few places have been so successful in tackling social problems head on with #urbanism, architecture and greening of the urban landscape. Urban designer Mikael Colville-Andersen discovers that #Medellin is a #city like no other - having gone from being the murder capital of the world to benchmark urbanism darling. A lot remains to be done, but Medellin can inspire every other city in the world with its visionary political and social choices and its strong network of urban activists.

This is so beautiful how the mayor said that giving urbanism and architecture to the poorest members of our society is dignity to them. Made me shed a tear. Good job! It has been amazing seeing the amazing ongoing transformation of Medellin and Colombia at large. Please keep up the good work!

Most of the money un Medellin Is still from drug Trade. Although the best infrastructure on Colombia is in Medellin, it's still really plagued with money from illegal business and corruption. I would not trust any of the mayors of Medellin through the last 50 years

This has to be the best documentary i've seen about my city ever. As someone who was raise there, not even spending a whole year in Medellin you can begin to feel what a Paisa feels as a Medellin citizen for our city. Thats what made the difference, because we all saw that dream. But this documentary really gave me glimpses of it, making me miss it even more. Thank you for experiencing my city and sharing it in a new language for the world to believe in our dream too. Huge things are coming for Medellin in matters of infrastructure, technology and industry. New metro lines, new cable-cars, a funicular and if everything goes as planned, a bullet train to Bogota. Not even 70 years of war were able to brake Colombia. So please, be welcomed everyone!

Super awesome episode. Medellín is aiming to be the 15 min city. Things have kept on improving. The river park is done and it works as an oasis in the middle of the city where people from all sorts gather. New cable car and Tran lines are already working or on their way. Tourism, urban music, arts and entertainment are now crucial to the city's economy. Health tech, bio technology, blockchain, robotics and AI are the next bets in Medellín's horizons. No wonder the city has become a Global center for digital Nomads from all around the world. Everyone is welcome and Mikael it might be time for a new visit, you're more than welcome back!

Something important to highlight is that the cable cars as public transportation was born there, in Medellín. All cities that now have this type of system were inspired by Medellín and its magnificent idea to join people together

The city has come a long way from the 1980s and 1990s. It has become a progressive, innovative, and enterpreneual city. In my opinion the best city in Colombia is the best people, the best weather, overall the best in Colombia

I came here just because I wanted to practice my english listenning, but I recognize that I had never seen a documental about Medellin which showed each side of Medellín as this video did it, even there are more beautiful places here such as Provenza or Laureles which weren't mentioned on the video, but it's ok because for me it was clear what the intention of the documental was. Your speaking was very clear for me by the way.

You should also visit Bogotá, the capital! We dont have such a good and diverse public transport system (we're trying to make it better, metro is under construction and tramways are on the path to also start being built) but as I see you love bike infrastructure, I would be very glad to show it to you around since we have presumably better bike infrastructure, we are the most cyclable city in the Americas and we're expanding the bike infrastructure more and more. Thank you for showing my country in a good light, what a nice video!

The documentary does not show the current problems, for example the tramway has been taken by motorcycles, most people are just not using public transportation and go with their moto bike even where they are legally not allowed but it seems that nobody cares, the city really needs a big public transportation shift because the two metro lines and the cable cars are just not enough

The great Sergio Fajardo, my forever president. The one that the toxic political class in Colombia feared the most, and do not allow to be leading our country. I was living in Medellin when he was Major, what he did is remarkable, and what he continues doing is what a decent politician does, educating. I see Sergio Fajardo as the Bernie Sanders of Colombia. Great documentary.

@@Jamal-bb8lx I don't even know NY 🤡. But your comment is tremendously stupid, considering the most dense city in the Americas is Medellin, not NY. And is not fucking beautiful, I recommend you to visit Vienna, Budapest, or practically any European city. How can someone can consider a city where half of its buildings are unfinished bricks.

Why start by bringing the toxic past negativity about at one point being a violent city why? what sort of purpose those that have, but imagine if we focuse about all the toxicity of rich places how they built their wealth, racism inequality feudal socities slavery massive enviromental destruction and crime as well.... look like a nice city but i prefer costa rica central america one hundred billion times..
