It is not that his English is very good. He has an internal monologue that is very eloquent, thoughtful and matured. He could learn Chinese tomorrow and start speaking very thoughtful and matured sentences. He is an exceptional human and I wish him all the success in life, not just in chess.

What a treat. Gem of a person with so much humility even though he is a super grandmaster. As of 25 August 2023, he is ranked 7th up from 18th when this interview was recorded. He has gone past his idol Vishy. A point to note - Super Magnus Carlsen rates Gukesh as one of the best classical chess players, what more does anyone want. This was very nice and insightful. Sagar bhai you always said how these guys think only about chess and nothing else. But hearing it from Gukesh directly had a great impactness on how deeply engaged they are with chess. Gukesh's answers showed that and it was not like he wanted to show himself in good light he was very honest not being people pleasing.
