I went on a date with a very handsome and muscular man. I couldn't pinpoint anything necessarily wrong with him but I knew something was off. 7 years later he was still pressing me despite moving abroad. So he sends me this photo and I was able to see his last name. When I looked up his full name, I had saw he had been arrested for choking a woman. He had also lied about owning a restaurant and an ocean front home before. When I've confronted him on this he says "I wish I was born rich like you". First of all it's my parents money. Second my father never even completed high school and became a millionaire. He was born into poverty. So I can't take any man's excuse seriously why he can't be successful too. These men are deeply insecure and will snap if you expose them as failures.

I agree and disagree, and am a huge advocate of personal accountability. Whether a victim or perpetrator, each role should be examined and accountability taken. While the actual crime imposed on them is never 100% their fault, we should take accountability for how we place ourselves in situations that can bring negative consequences. Exceptions do exist, but they are just that-exceptions. Sometimes we know better but don’t do better, because doing better is often the most difficult thing. I commend her for her openness and honesty. No judgement from me. I hate that these things happened to her and sick people like him do what they do. She is a beautiful woman and I thank her for being extremely vulnerable. I hope her next is her last and she gets the very best of life. Healing from this situation is not easy. But man, she is so poised in her expression of the events!

I think it’s weird that in this context the two are being conflated. This crime is under the same umbrella as SA, albeit a different form. That’s why the Tinder Swindler was able to be charged for this type of crime that is very similar in nature to what this young woman has experienced. If we dismiss the actual victimization that has occurred, then laws can’t be made to hold those causing the actual harm to be held “accountable”! Also, I think it’s very peculiar how BW seem to strongly want to hold other BW accountable for being victimized when we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the signs of what predator traits look like first. I think we need to freely give space for women like this to be open and honest with their stories, without adding extra layers of harm in the form of “holding them accountable” (so cringe)! That way we have a real and raw understanding of predatory behaviors and nature. Then we as women can move around accordingly.

I feel like his job could’ve been easily verified with a quick online search. What I’ve learned from contacting sources for stories is the vast majority of businesses and publications will have an “about” or “who we are” page. Especially for leadership with everyone’s name, professional headshot, and a short blurb about them. She could’ve easily went to the company’s website and find out if he was the VP. But then again most people don’t expect others to lie about their job so many may not think to verify. I always look up guys I’m interested in out of curiosity and safety.
