I got an e-prop this year on my SZD-45 motorglider. I got an added 200 fpm in climb rate and another 10 kts cruise. And gliding improved too because of the skinnier blades. Really love this prop!
@portnuefflyer Жыл бұрын
Wow, that's a huge jump in performance, and as one who does the occasional dead stick ridge soaring in my own S-7, those skinny blades are starting to look better!
@assiegordon Жыл бұрын
@@portnuefflyer yeah, I was shocked too. I've kept rechecking but the numbers are true. But just like Jonas found out with the airbike, my static rpm is higher than dynamic because of the root being stalled when static. It is backwards from a normal prop. I will tell you one thing, there isn't a straight piece anywhere on that prop blade. It is optimized in full 3 dimensions, does not care about wood grain and machinability. I'm very happy with it.

The heavier a wheel is, the more hp it takes to turn it. Would be interesting to calculate how much less hp it takes to turn the light eprop than each of the other 2. It should get rpms up quicker for takeoff but also may give better cruise econ because takes less hp to turn it (all subject to the thrust for comparison). But would be interesting to calculate the hp requirements for each prop for given thrust to compare both cruise hp required and takeoff.

Love to see tests like this. In the RC world we do it all the time, but in full sized... who wants to spend thousands of $$$ to try? BUT... you may want to put a disclaimer... removing 5 lbs from the nose will shift the CG a bunch.

Ok, so the longer E prop pulled better (80") than the shorter one (72"), but what about top end, were you able to test that? If not, I hope you can do a comparitive test on the top end speed differences, I think a lot of us would like to see that demonstrated. BTW, what did the plane weigh? Thanks Jonas!

this is about your airbike ,VIP!! take off that yellow fuel line!! the center of it gets gummy and lets gum slime in everything .go to aircraft spruce and buy the blue hose - real aircraft fuel hose. that yellow hose was sold by arrowprop..this was a hell of a problem with my rotax 503 . over heating? was your rotax built for regular gasoline like in snowmobiles or is it built for airport fuel that is leaded fuel. and are you using 10% gasohol , even that fuel you by that says alcohol free has 10% .that fuel set in a container and watch the water settle in the bottom after 3 weeks . .my 503 had a pullstart with a internal belt fed fan with no cooling problems on my minimax .

@portnuefflyer Жыл бұрын
@@JonasMarcinko The noise it makes would be of interest to me, especially as compared to the Prince (which almost makes the Rotax sound like a little radial). I flew 3 hours yesterday and never got over 5000 RPM, burning 2.7 to 2.9 GPH much of the time, kind of typical for me, it'd be interesting to see how it does in that flight regime.
