I like the Film. I just wanted more craziness. He sets up these terrifying premises and dosen't deliver the way Ari Astor does. imho. Witch and Northmen are his best pieces imho. Lighthouse and Nosferatu were fairly underwhelming in terms of Payoff. He nails it in the Witch specifically.

I absolutely adore this film. It’s my favorite of Egger’s movies. The music, the cinematography, the performances, the script, everything is firing on all cylinders here to deliver a thrilling tale of regret, sexuality, and isolation. Just to throw my hat in the ring regarding the ending, the fire in the story of Prometheus represents knowledge of the gods, which is why he is punished for elevating man closer to the gods. The knowledge of the lighthouse is a darker forbidden knowledge. It’s Lovecraftian like Austin said, and the allure has the same seductive qualities of the Siren (aka the mermaid). This attraction is what tears the two apart and drives them mad with paranoia. Ephraim is one of the 12 tribes of Israel and Joseph’s son whom Jacob, his grandfather, favored. Later in the rule of David, God rejected the tribe of Ephraim for its idolatry. Not sure if there is a parallel in the film or not. Probably just a time appropriate name.
