Re-uploading this one last time! All of my points are still there. The audio is exactly the same. I re-edited a few visuals to avoid another takedown and I am now well aware of the rules. Please don’t worry about re-commenting all your lovely comments!! I included everyone’s comments in the description in case anyone would like to read them. Thank you so much for watching!! Can't thank you enough for this. I was simultaneously confused and enthralled by The Lighthouse; this helps make sense of it all. I'd love to get your take on some of Lars von Trier's work. Antichrist was tough to watch but has stayed with me for years.

I think as an arthouse film, this film is very well-paced, not too long, and not too ambiguous (story & meaning). The slower parts are not too slow and are filled with intriguing visual and sound effects, and good acting so it never feels boring, which is very well-done as an arthouse film. The main plot can be understood quite easily. The only parts that require explanations are all the greek mythology references, which are perfectly explained by you. Overall, this film exceeds my expectation, and thanks for explaning all the references, which completes my film-viewing experience

Notice also that Wake stands naked in front of the light, whereas Winslow has clothes on. Nakedness in spiritual thought signifies the removal of human emotions/limitations of a person and being left with the divine essence. That's why the holy light does not harm Wake, but drives Winslow insane, and forces him to end up naked at the end.

I will say, this film is great. First time I watched I picked up on certain themes, and I think more focused on the shots and cinematography of it at times. But after thinking of it my 2nd time I saw more of the Greek theming of Prometheus for sure. And the monologue Willem Dafoe does is something of masterpiece how it's performed as well as shot. That and the scene when dirt is being shoveled onto him, it's a brilliant performance while at the same time cold and disturbing. For him to stay in character and do the scene with dirt shoveling onto him even to the point it was in his face and mouth, I can't imagine any other performance in this generation. It draws back to the idea that to act is to suffer. It's uncomfortable to watch, and it is very direct as far as shooting that scene was intended to do

@@lucasblue20 third time's a charm! But it is such a pity to loose your views, comments and all the interactions. I copy my first comment and hope your hard work and dedication will get all the attention they deserve. "Very insightful ! Love it! This movie is also an incredible aesthetic experience : like a Caravaggio tenebroso painting with light and obscurity. I remember thinking there were some references to all the "killing the father" theory but your analysis and the link to the greek mythology made me revisit some of the primal genesis myths of Ouranos and Kronos : the phallic aspect of the lighthouse, the up and down movements and view points, ascending and descending, accessing the light, etc."
