Pie, mash and liquor shop in Croydon South London, well it was still there when I used to commute to work for 6 years until 2004. Pie and mash is a traditional working-class food, originating in the Docks of London. It typically consists of a minced beef pie, mashed potato and a parsley sauce known as liquor. Pie, mash and eel shops have been in London since the 19th century, and are still common in East and South London, and in many parts of Kent and Essex. The shops may also serve stewed or jellied eels.

The Eagle and Child, nicknamed The Bird and Baby,[1] is a pub in St Giles' Street, Oxford, England, owned by St. John's College, Oxford and operated by Mitchells & Butlers as a Nicholson's pub.[2] The pub had been part of an endowment belonging to University College since the 17th century. It has associations with the Inklings writers' group which included J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis. In 2005, 25 other pubs had the same name.[3] Wikipedia.

Why is Weston-super-Mare so popular? What is Weston-super-Mare famous for? Located on the Severn Estuary, Weston-super-Mare has the second-highest tidal range in the world. Once a small village, Weston has become a popular seaside resort with distinct architecture and fascinating history.

London Underground, much is actually above ground, Paris Metro. English subways are underpasses to cross under major roads, or as per subway take away, not take out as I believe the US says. The Channel Tunnel (French: Tunnel sous la Manche), also known as the Chunnel,[3][4] is a 50.46-kilometre (31.35 mi) underwater railway tunnel that connects Folkestone (Kent, England, UK) with Coquelles (Hauts-de-France, France) beneath the English Channel at the Strait of Dover. It is the only fixed link between the island of Great Britain and the European mainland. At its lowest point, it is 75 metres (246 ft) deep below the sea bed and 115 metres (377 ft) below sea level.[5][6][7] At 37.9 kilometres (23.5 mi), it has the longest underwater section of any tunnel in the world, and is the third longest railway tunnel in the world. The speed limit for trains through the tunnel is 160 kilometres per hour (99 mph). Wikipedia.

Curious. American men of any age seem to have almost a fixation for wearing caps, not only outdoors but indoors also. Glad to see this gentleman at least wearing his the correct way round. 😀

Great video, we will be in Paris in July and wondering where you signed up for walking tour? And was it worth it? Thanks
@lindaverse Жыл бұрын
Typically we utilize Free Tours by Foot, but found this tour on Tripadvisor - Listed as, "See 30 Plus Top Paris Sights with a Fun Guide". It took a little over 5 hours and was a great way to become quickly acclimated to the city... definitely worth it.

You went to Weston-super- mud …. Spent a lot of time there.. the closest coastal resort to my home city of Birmingham…. "Mud" by the way us what we Brummies call it… great vid btw

Thanks for the comment. We walked along the beach up by the boardwalk and it was sandy, but looking down from the end of the pier at low tide did look a bit...well, muddy. So, we can understand the nickname. BTW, had to look up "Brummies"...always good to learn something new!

@@lindaverse In London, what you called Piccadilly Circus was actually Trafalgar Square.

I'm sure you had your reasons, but I'm curious...why not fly direct to Paris at the start?
@lindaverse Жыл бұрын
Yeah...We should have explained that crazy maneuver. We originally booked the trip to London/England, but Rick was asked to attend a conference in Paris at the last moment and we "adjusted" our plans to accommodate. Actually ended up being a fun adventure, but it did shorten our plans in the England. So, we'll just have to go back!
@leematthews6812 Жыл бұрын
@@lindaverse I see....well, going back will be worthwhile, I'm sure. Living in London, I'm always thankful that Paris is a fairly short train ride away. More convenient and comfortable than flying - for me at least.

What is this Millenium Bridge? The real one was destroyed by Voldemort's Death Eaters in Harry Potter 7; we've all seen it! 🤨🌉🪄🌊

I can't believe you saw the London Bridge in London. It's in Arizona en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Bridge_(Lake_Havasu_City). I've driven over it, and have pictures of my MGA at the London Bridge.

Yes, they did see London Bridge. The previous one was sold off and shipped to America. Some dumb bugger had bought it thinking that he was buying Tower Bridge (didn't know the difference). I would love to have seen his face when he found out!
@lindaverse2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the clarification, Hano. A few friends have made this comment and we've informed them that the one in Arizona WAS the London Bridge, but the current "London Bridge" is very much in London.
@philbates2772 жыл бұрын
@@lindaverse I looked up information about the London Bridge on wikipedia......again. Apparently there has been a London Bridge for a long time - over a thousand years, maybe even close to 2000 years. At times it was even highly residential. There is indication that Robert McCulloch - who bought the previous London Bridge, and had it placed in Arizona - knew he was getting London Bridge, not the Tower Bridge. Links to info about previous generations of London Bridges here:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Bridge.

@@downsman1 He knew exactly what he was buying. There's photos of him on London Bridge when he was buying it.

As you have now discovered, the London Bridge in Arizona is an earlier London Bridge. The London Bridge this couple saw in London was its replacement.
