Supposedly she’s friends with Mike. I had a lot of reservations going in, but hearing the song they dropped, I actually found myself really liking her voice and the direction. Granted, what little I saw of the live performance didn’t work. I don’t think her voice works well while singing Chester’s parts, it just works well next to Mike’s and with Linkin Park’s music behind it. All of this though is bringing all of those doubts right back though. I usually don’t think that one’s political opinions, whether or not they’re a victim of a cult, or past controversy that they have explained away should really be held against a singer unless they’re ranting about those very things at concerts, in songs, or on social media, but holy hell is it damning if she actually wrote a letter and still supports Scientology after seeing the horrific abuse that goes in behind the scenes. I was looking forward to November to see what the new album would be like, but holy shit this is bad.

What a lot of people here seems to forget is: that girl is also a victim, not in the same way as the rape victims but she's still one. She's a second gen scientologist, which means because of her parents choices , she was born in this and she's been brainwashed since her young age, all her friends and loved ones are in this crazy cult that she was led to believe was righteous in some weird ways. Masterson, for example, lets say he was her friend for many years and never attempted shit on her, totally possible she REALLY thought he could never do that, might not be the case, but still possible. The church might have forced her to support him, we don't know much except these 2 facts: she was a scientologist ( maybe still is nobody knows for sure at this point) and she supported Masterson at least once ( for what reasons? facts are still unknown, we can just speculate). Being related to scientology is clearly not a good thing for her but everything is so shady and unknown right now that mostly everything said these past days are opinions and judgements no real ''facts'' except some weird messages from a fellow scientologist (well, ex). People who have never been in a cult or personally know people in cults can't understand how hard it is to accept all you were taught and led to believe all your life are lies, accept the fact that your own parents and majority of friends are pieces of shit and add to that even if you realize all this, getting out is one of the most difficult thing you're ever gonna do or try to do. This girl is a victim in her own way, even if she doesn't know it yet. PS: I'm not defending scientology or her reprehensible actions if she ever did any, I'm just stating that we're far from having all the pieces of the puzzle required to jump on her throat the way the vast majority of ''fans'' did the last days. It covers the topic in respectful manner from ex-scientologist. People should remember that people recruited into cult were at their low - searching for something good to believe in. Emily's mother was harrassed, tortured and abused by current cult leader David Miscavige into submission. The people working there are probably not bad people, but they were brainwashed and twisted by horrible morals of cult's teachings. If you want tldr on her mom's situation start about in 1 hour and 20 minutes into the video. Solution is not simple and all I can hope for is that Emily can gather strength to go against this shitty cult, maybe not yet, let's give her time to gather strength. Yes, Emily supported rapist in one and only hearing she attended to, but she thought he was her friend at the time and I don't think he went about saying how he was conducting SAs 20 years prior. She cut ties and that's important (forgetting to unfollow someone on instagram is blown out of proportion by online people). On the other hand her song speak sometimes subtly, sometimes not so on mental issues, being unsure how to deal with the card she's been dealt with and how she has a special relation with her mother. Her only mistake that really shows up is attending and being in the crowd at the hearings. For me Chrissie's and Cedric's relations on this don't align 100% and from my understanding in Cedric's take she was not in the intimidation crowd. Chrissie is on personal vendetta for Scn and I don't blame her, but sometimes it's just spewing venom from her. Remember: you can't bully someone out of a cult, these people need help

Just a hypothesis: maybe she has nothing to do with the things she's accused of (hence nothing to apologize for), is no longer affiliated with Scientology (and no, even if her parents still are, that wouldn't count), but just *doesn't want to escalate.* If you respond to Every. Single. Accusation. that's being thrown at you, it'd just instantly turn into a dumpster fire and you wouldn't even have time to do anything other than responding to those. That Zavala guy may be a troll for all we know. That's of course just a hypothesis. It's also possible that Emily is indeed a bad person who did horrible things. Who knows. But a) the idea that "not responding to accusations confirms them" is just completely backwards, b) I guess she (like any human being) deserves some benefit of the doubt - since when do we assume that a person is evil the moment anybody says something bad about them? OK, for starters, you misread Cedric's comment. He specifically said that she did NOT write a letter in support of Masterson. Beyond that, I think her statement was fine. She clearly said that she was wrong to support him, which is all I can say I needed to hear. Also, you mentioned how the "church" goes after members who publicly criticize Scientology. There's this kind of BS thing at the moment, is all of the apologists and those desperate to be supportive--just totally dismissing the concerns of people who were initially onboard, but now troubled by all of this. If someone has been living in a "sect" since birth and is presented with the idea that this is the only correct meaning of life, it will be strongly marked in that person. It could be said that after that these people are even mentally ill. If I take a very extreme example, if parents teach their child that raping someone is perfectly fine, he grows up in an environment where he encounters this on a daily basis in the family, and this person later rapes someone, that person has committed a crime, but he is treated completely differently, because he is not mentally and psychologically well. Most of the time these people end up with the parole and have prescribed treatment. I had the opportunity to talk with a person who was raised by his parents in captivity until he was 16. That person in some things, behaved like a person from another planet. The things that we learn in our lives are bad, he was taught that they are okay etc... So then the question needs to be asked, why doesn't she respond to it? Maybe it's all true, she doesn't regret it and just plays a dead bug and expects us to forget about it after some time. Or it was her period that she is simply not proud of, it still brings her mental pain and she doesn't have the strength to face it. I'm interested in how it will turn out, but I don't want to make premature judgments and condemn someone based on his past, which does not excuse her, but still her past is covered up, they are not completely exposed...
