I've taught Windows programming for a good university, and have incorporated terminal as a developer, but I bought a cheap but branded mini with Ubuntu preinstalled. When I'm comfortable with it I can resurrect a slow old PC I've got and go full on with whatever distro looks good.

Thank you for sharing your favorites, @srinivasc1720! Fedora, Ubuntu, and Pop!_OS are indeed excellent choices, each with its strengths. Fedora’s cutting-edge approach and stability make it a favorite for developers, while Ubuntu’s user-friendliness appeals to a broader audience, despite occasional stability quirks. Pop!_OS stands out with its simplicity and a great balance of stability, especially for gamers and productivity-focused users. It's always fascinating to see how different distros fit various needs. In my opinion, a wonderful distro for beginners - people who are barely comfortable with Windows - is Linux Lite. It's an Ubuntu downstream but simplified with extra automation and management simplification. I started testing it out to see if it would work for a friend on my workbench and a Thinkpad and never installed anything over it. Think Xubuntu but much more polished.

Zorin OS was what got me interested in Linux again. I'd tried Ubuntu back in the early 2000's and Linux Mint in 2010 but they all lacked a easy to use interface. When I tried Zorin a few years back it really showed how Linux had come a long way and is very usable. A little restrictive for how I use Linux, but a great doorway to the world if Linux Mint doesn't do it for you coming from Windows. Personally I went with a Fedora KDE derivative. Regardless of Red Hats shenanigans, Fedora is a great base and very solid. It's the only distro I've stayed on for more than a month and upgraded past several releases. One of it's downsides is the constant updates because of it's almost bleeding edge - way more than you'll ever see on a Mac or Windows install. I think it all boils down to where you're coming from and choosing a desktop environment - the distro doesn't really matter that much. Elementary and Deepin DE's are great if Mac was your OS. If it was Windows 10 then I think KDE is a no brainer. Windows 7 and people generally seem to enjoy Linux Mint.
@ByteGuardian-1
@ByteGuardian-1 11 күн бұрын
Great points, @peterschmidt9942! Zorin OS is fantastic for newcomers, and Fedora KDE is a solid choice, KDE's flexibility paired with Fedora's cutting-edge updates is hard to beat. I agree that the desktop environment often matters more than the distro. KDE is perfect for Windows 10 users, while Elementary and Deepin shine for Mac fans. How’s Fedora KDE been for your workflow?

I switched to Linux in late 2022. I went with Manjaro with the KDE desktop. Early in 2024 my computer died, so I built a new one, and installed Manjaro, but wasn't satisfied, so I installed Nobara. I've been quite happy with it so far. I stuck with the KDE desktop. I've experimented with distros with Gnome, but I didn't like Gnome as much as KDE. I have a laptop from System 76 which has PopOS, which, if I'm not mistaken is based on Ubuntu.

I maintain the notebooks of some Linux beginners. What I need for them is a Linux distribution that they can upgrade themselves. Currently I have running Debian everywhere but it means that I have to perform a dist-upgrade every two years. On the other hand, I think a rolling release is not appropriate for those users.
@ByteGuardian-1
@ByteGuardian-1 16 күн бұрын
It sounds like you’re doing a great job supporting Linux beginners! For a more user-friendly experience, you might consider an LTS version of Ubuntu or Linux Mint, which provide a good balance between stability and upgradability.

@@ByteGuardian-1 I dropped Ubuntu in favor of Debian, because they terminated support for 32bit, for 5-LTS support and I guess for not supporting the text-mode installer anymore. My friends have rather old computers and my selling point is that they can continue to use their old machines with a fresh Linux instead of Windows.

@@amigalemming Thanks for sharing your experience! Switching to Debian makes sense given its 32-bit support, 5-year LTS, and lightweight nature-perfect for older hardware. Why are you using someone else's image for your profile by the way? One that's well known to both European law enforcement agencies and Federal law enforcement agencies in the US. Go on, make my day, ask me how I know about what Federal agencies in the US know about this.

The background music is way too loud. Instead of copy pasting a response about doing something in future videos, edit this one. Also, what's with all the AI/bot comments? And they all started their accounts on the same date lol. How embarrassing. Why are you using obvious bots in your comment section?

@ZenAndPsychedelicHealingCenter Thanks for the feedback on the music, I’ll work on balancing it better. As for the comments, I genuinely appreciate real engagement, so if anything seems off, I’ll definitely look into it. Transparency and quality are priorities here!

I wish you well, but putting your script on the screen when we could easily just turn subtitles on is really distracting.

I appreciate your feedback! I’ll definitely take it into consideration for future videos. Thanks for watching!

@@ByteGuardian-1 Using the same copy paste response to legitimate concerns is lazy and annoying. Or is the whole channel AI, not just the graphics and many of the comments?

@@ZenAndPsychedelicHealingCenter Ok, let us help here with how to re-upload the updated/fixed video file while my video is live. I can't find a way in KZbin Studio to replace it, and my audio is part of a single video file. Thank you!
