The way Scar is introduced is so significant. He plays with his food and because he doesn’t go for the kill immediately he loses it. (Zazu: “didn’t your mother ever tell you not to play with your food”) He toys with Simba before ordering the hyenas to kill him. He didn’t have to say all those things to him, because he was planning to kill him all along, but he enjoys the cruelty of making his prey suffer before the end. Just look at the little smile he has when Simba runs away from him. He relishes in it a little and gives Simba a head start, and it costs him the kill, again. And even when Simba hangs from the rocks he specifically wants him to die knowing he suffered all these years for nothing thinking he killed his father. And, again, his prey escapes him because he does exactly that. It’s an interesting dynamic they gave him. Scar is, imo, one of the most evil villains in Disney movies because he isn’t just evil, he is cruel.

Such an impactful movie for me when I was a child and even as an adult. The scene were Rafiki points to the water and says “No… Look harder. Its still very sad that Mufasa and Scar have such a bitter and resentful relationship with each other. It was implied that Mufasa was the favorite in the family while Scar wasn't. Of course, that is not the truth but Scar perceived it that way. Its also interesting that the two are such polar opposites. From personality to build. Mufasa's only real weakness was his poor judgement of character. He knew Scar didn't like him but he never would had imagined that he'd actually try to kill him the way he did. He didn't see his brother's hatred of him until it was too late. Scar hated him so much that even when is dead, he made it so petty to made a law to NEVER mention him when he is around is both petty and sad.

I'm retired now, but I was a Spanish teacher for 30 years and during much of that time I used to show Disney & Pixar films to my classes with the Spanish language audio track playing. This is one of the videos I used to show. Now every time I watch it, I hear the dialogue and songs in Spanish from my memory.

@tofersiefken
@tofersiefken Жыл бұрын
@@jlinkous05 I also used Duo Lingo with my students. I liked the platform and it supplemented the curriculum well, but the variety of activities in class had a heavy focus on audio / video media in the target language from a plethora of sources, both from the curriculum and from authentic, real-world sources. Disney / Pixar have just always been great about including multi-language audio tracks, first by offering VHS options in Spanish & French, then by offering DVDs and Streaming Media with a whole list of language options. Mixing Spanish audio with English subtitles (for the entry-level learners) on a movie that many of the kids were already familiar with made it more fun. I regularly showed Toy Story, The Lion King, and Coco for animations, as well as numerous live-action films such as Selena, Stand & Deliver, The Sea Inside, Pan's Labyrinth, Man Facing Southeast, The Official Story, and more. Obviously the more complex, thematically sober movies were reserved for the more advanced students. Maybe now is a good time to mention that at University, one of my degrees is in Communications with a specialty in Broadcast & Film Production, so I may have a bias for the media.

You know as a kid I got used to characters losing one or both parents early in a movie (i.e. Bambi and Littlefoot) but Mufasa broke me because he was in a full third of the movie! Letting the viewer get to know him and form an attachment was painful enough but on top of that (unlike Bambi's mom who dies off screen or Littlefoot's mom saying her last words) they linger on his corpse for an uncomfortable amount of time as SImba tries to get him to move. It's a scene that's only meant to deliver as much pain as possible😿

A large portion of those who have seen it opine that it’s arguably just as enjoyable as its predecessor. Some even say they liked it more than the original. 10/10 The Best Animated Film I Have Ever Seen The Lion King is a great film. Along with a great story (inspired by William Shakespeare's Hamlet), terrific animation, and an all star cast of voices, there are the lessons that are learned from this film (despite being a little rough for the younger children). The producer of The Lion King claimed that Moses and Joseph were characters who Simbas journey is partly inspired by, but it's also heavily inspired by Shakespeares Hamlet. Both stories center around a prince whos father is killed by his brother to take the throne, the uncle convinces the son to exile himself while trying to kill him, their fathers appear to their sons as spirits, and they exact revenge, but they're not identical mirrors. For instance, in Hamlet, he's indirectly responsible for his lover and mothers death rather than his fathers, and he also dies at the end after killing his uncle.

One thing I learned when I watch animated movies is that when the animated movies hit you with emotions, they hit you HARD. And all because they combine the visuals with the music in such scenes. Revisiting those scenes, whatever emotions and feelings those animated movies were trying to make me feel and have, I feel them and I have them, and that's how you tell amazing stories in this medium.

Few things I met Matthew Broderick (grown Simba) when I was a child he is an amazing person, the stampede scene took the teams three years to complete and the teams were 3000 miles away from each other with some on the west coast and the rest in the east so there were a lot of phone calls, and business trips, Nathan lane ( timon) actually auditioned for the role of pumba and vis versa for pumbas voice actor but the casting thought they'd be perfect for the opposite roles... The look in Mufasa's eyes wasn't fear for himself it was for his son because he finally realized his brother would literally stop at nothing for what he wanted and that includes ki**ing whoever he thinks necessary, and with Mufasa not around Simba is defenseless....!!

Amazing reaction! I really would love to react to the rest of the franchise! I’d do it in this order: The Lion King, The Lion King 1 1/2, The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, and The Lion King Live Action. There is a tv series called The Lion Guard, which follows Simba and Nala’s second born Kion as he becomes the leader of the Lion Guard and protect the Pridelands from their enemies; it takes place during The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and not long after its ending. Also here’s some trivia; Hyenas are actually part of the feline family and a clan of hyenas are led by a female. Also in the original storyline, they actually had planned for Scar to find Simba besides Mufasa in distraught. Scar would pick him up by the mouth and attempt to kill him. Only to be interrupted by Sarabi and the lionesses, and they would’ve thought Scar had saved him. Simba would grow with Scar being his adviser. However, the production team thought it would best for him to run away in shame, so he’d be more humble and actually grew up from his carefree life style to take his place. 🦁💛🧡❤️🖤

Really wish we could have gotten a sequel, where we see mufasa and scar as children and find out how they became who they are, especially scar being so evil, it really feels like he never felt important to anyone.

I want to agree but at the same time I feel like it would be hard to have a satysfying ending on that one since... well we know what happens.

@@Sway22 I'm not saying it's a easy project, but I believe with the right writers, you can create something special that makes the first one mean more, because we see why the actions of those characters were inevitable.

@@christopherking4932 I feel like ot would be better if they made a movie about Ahadi and Uru (Mufasa's and Skaza's parents). And it would wnd with them being born. They would have more freedom to make an interesting story sonce we don't really know anything about those two.

One of my favorite movies as a kid! I used to watch this over and over again, whenever I got bowed or got sick. The remake could have been a lot better, as the animal characters in the film looked dull and dead.

There are so many similarities in the scene with Mufasas spirit and Star Wars Empire strikes back considering James Earl Jones also did the voice of Darth Vader. Mufasa: "Remember who you are! You are my son and the one true king!" Vader: "Search your feelings, you know it to be true!"

Not only that but Simba used the move that Nala has been beating him with in every one of their fights to beat Scar, that flip over the head when tackled. Nala is the real MVP of the film.

In lion culture, it would’ve been appropriate for Scar to either be dead or banished as the secondary male lion, so he was lucky to even be there. Interestingly, Scar is also considered “more attractive” in lion terms, being dark haired and having more testosterone, so it’s likely the lionesses might have preferred him as pride leader (if they weren’t “humanized” to see his poor leadership qualities of course.)

Re c. 13:53 When this came out in '94, I was on active duty in the Navy. Main Gate Movies 10 was right off post at the big base in Norfolk, and an Army officer I knew from back before I enlisted, was in town. It was on a weekend when I was, for a change, off duty, and he wanted to catch up. Wasn't much going on around town that I knew about, so we opted to see this particular picture. I'd seen it before, but this is the kind of movie you REALLY have to see in a theater to get the full experience. Now, this was a tough old officer, former Army Nurse Corps major, who'd served two tours in West Germany toward the end of the Cold War. He wasn't exactly the moviegoing type, so the sample size is kinda small here. But it was the only time in my life, that I ever saw him cry during a movie. That old Army nurse passed away in Washington, DC, in 2017. I miss you, Dad.
