Nice spot. :) May I add more? I'll do it anyway. To point out a few more wrong things in this video (and as of writing I have only seen 3 minutes.) During the intro he stated: "Heavily armored trailer." ..... Bro. The trailer only had a maximum of 5 to 12 millimeters of armor. It couldn't weigh much more in steel with I believe a couple hundred gallons of petroleum. As the Churchill's already were slow and underpowered as they were. (Though being an "infantry tank", slow wasn't a problem.) Compared to even a Panzer 2, that went into battle in the outset of the war 3 to 4 years earlier, which had 20-ish mm at most, that trailer was paper-thin. (Edit 1: Narrator later explained what I just said above. I still stand by the point that 12mm of armor doesn't qualify as his stated "heavily armored" though...) Also, before or during the same time as Churchill Crocodile, there was the Matilda Flamethrower. (Though I am currently uncertain if that one ever saw action, prototypes were made for sure.) Which had an internal resevoir of petroleum which was smaller than the Crocodile by a lot, and obviously a lot more dangerous when a shell penned the hull/turret. Over the trailer which had some extra cover from the tank, though not from the sides or rear, but was a nuisance for the driver. But that could burst out in flames and the crew wouldn't be cooked. Unless fuel etc circumstances....

The Churchill was an infantry support tank and was very well suited for fighting against dug in German infantry. Since it originally was designed with it's main gun in the hull, it was very well suited to be turned into a driving flamethrower. And as the German tanks became rarer and rarer, the Churchill became ever more useful - since it was not well suited to fight other tanks, which were generally faster and had a heavier gun.

My favorite - The Northrop Grumman Light Reconnaissance Vehicle named Hellhound. Look it up, it's awesome. Soldiers in the US Army's 463rd Medical Detachment are called hellhounds. Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 are the hellhounds. They have a very cool insignia/patch The 20th attack squadron of the Air Force are called hellhounds. The pilot the MQ-9 Reaper.

@knot3d_2 жыл бұрын
The 2pdr main gun on the MK1 and MK2 were essentially 40mm caliber, so yeah '45mm' is incorrect but pretty close. However, I do have to note that the Churchill MK7 was quite a substantial change from the MK4; as the MK7 hull was fully welded and it did away with the internal 'mild steel' inner frame. That's why the MK7 is substantially better armored than its predecessors but it's only heavier by a 'mere' 2 tons. Also, people tend to misinterpret Churchill tanks as 'weak' mobility. The horsepower output rating of 350 bhp wasn't great, but the trick was its fantastic torque band; the reason why Churchills were so great at climbing steep inclines. Unfortunately, videogames like World of Tanks make Churchill tanks look bad due to silly bias from the gamedevelopers.

It proves my theory that the real militarist were the British and Americans. They embraced the war as though they were Mohammed and it was a religious jihad or holy war. In the last 18 months, more German and Japanese civilians died than soldiers by far. The Soviets and Americans were never held account to for war crimes they committed during and after the war. It was said the red army raped every woman in East Germany from 8 to 80 and some died. I imagined the deaths were horrific. Over 1 million Germans died after the war during the occupation. The British had a habit of destroying dams knowing they would kill masses of civilians. The allies became the very monsters they were trying to defeat.

Soviets didn't rape civilians in big numbers, because for this was death penalty, but many german woman trying to sell herself for food and other stuff. After USA participate in war, only then civilians start dying so numerously, because if soviet target military targets, USA target civilians (Dresden, Tokyo, etc). Soviet perticipate in re-building Gemany, so no, soviet didn't became monsters. Only monsters on allied side was USA.
@harrykuehn38942 жыл бұрын
I will grant you I am not an expert in the post war Germany but you have to admit. The allies were at the very least criminally negligent, if not intentionally so. It is very tempting to allow you soldiers free reign in a post war environment to do what they want. And get some payback, as if killing at least 100 Germans was enough for each individual soldier. That is just a spit ball number, if you were involved the whole 3 and half to six years of combat. 100 might be an accurate number, don't hold me to it. But let say military discipline wasn't strictly enforced and leave it at that. Estimates range from 500,000 to 2,000,000 million Germans died in the post war period.

According to my late grandfather, that "special commission" got a chance to defend our shores for real in the months after Dunkirk. Due to an instance of mistake identity, he was picked up by German medics in a miraculous turn of events, that saw him being treated in a German military intensive care unit in Normandy. One night, he awoke to the sounds of blood curdling screams and he opened his eyes to find the whole ward, the whole hospital, packed way past capacity with horrifically burnt German troops They'd be brought in, set down wherever possible, efforts would be made to ease their suffering until they'd stop screaming, at which point the lifeless body would be taken off and they'd fill the free space with another. This went on throughout the night. Some of the Nurses had figured out his true nationality by this point. They explained the next day that there was a failed beach landing on the south coast. They said the British had set fire to the sea. Seems outlandish. He told my father and my father told me. Believe what you want. It must be still classified to this day. Not sure why. The British had a relatively small number to carry out the counterattack, and most of the Germans who new about it died that very night. Crazy. He must have been terrified in that place
