When someone explained his name to me i was blown away: Whats the opposite of a liquid stranger? A solid friend.
@audioeats8 ай бұрын
That just blew my mind 🤯 I had assumed the liquid part was referencing liquid dance that was popular in the rave scene back in the day, and the stranger part was because he originally intended to be anonymous, but your explanation makes more sense

My first Liquid Stranger experience was at a Shambhala in the Village stage. My day started by getting stung in the leg by a ground wasp earlier in the morning. Med tent told me to prop it and stay off my leg. So I went and chilled in a chair at my favorite stage. after a very late night and I'm about to hobbel off to bed Liquid comes on for a massive long sun rise set. His sound had me hooked from the first beat. I couldn't help but get up and wiggle and get weird. Best Shambhala memory ever!!!

As far as that dirty mechanical sounding dubstep from the early 2010s goes... NOBODY could touch him imo,(Excision, Space Laces, Downlink, Datsik ect.) His sound always hit different to me, it was so mechanical yet so human and organic sounding somehow. His stuff on Rottun will always be my favorite dubstep hands down.

Definitely top 3 of my favorite producers of all time. It broke my heart last yr at Shambhala, about 50 minutes into his set at the Pagoda, the acid turned on me 😭 But I will be redeemed!!!! He's playing again this yr. I've been following him since around 2010 I believe, once X signed him to Rottun. Listened to his Mechanoid meltdown and Bionic beatdown mix literally for a yr straight. Then he did his ambient stuff for a while which kinda threw me off but then I heard The Gorgon and Wings Of Waves remix and we'll, he never fails to deliver. Thank you for doing a mini doc on him 🙏

This is such a great documentary man thank you for your work. I grew up like many here listening to dubstep, especially the releases from excisions label in the early years. Until recently liquid stranger for me was stuck in 2011, I had never listened to anything past the monumental mechanoid album and mechanoid mix. Discovering that he kept making music, expanding his sound palet, creating a huge record, making success after success with his own tracks and the tracks from artists he signed made me so happy. Seeing all these informations now adds so much depth to all of that lore, its so great to have people like you making documentaries about artists from the early dubstep scene. Keep it up. I can't wait for more. I really do hope you'll talk about classic artists with huge discography like zeds dead or moody good in the future. Cheers

wow this is amazing!!! Martin has been one of my biggest inspirations since I started making music after discovering psychedelic bass music when I had only heard dubstep and house before, it is especially inspiring to know he had been at it for so long before the trees of his labours beared any fruits. This resonates as someone who has been producing for (only) five years going on six but in todays day and age and my kinda uh generation I guess because it has felt a bit discouraging at times as time goes on and I inevitably observed so many people kinda my age and younger proceed to blow up in what I (think) was a shorter frame of time. (not to make this about me but) Anyways thanks for making these videos man, very interesting watch!!
