На Майю Михайловну можно смотреть вечно! Балерина с величайшим драматическим даром и гениальным телом!

This is so very enchanting! I’m in awe of the sheer range of characters Plisetskaya and Vasiliev can make utterly believable....dancers may be able to dance the choreography to a fine degree, but to _inhabit_ them and make them come alive is a very different-an insanely different-proposition. These artists lived so gracefully at the pinnacle of their world with very few others....isn’t it amazing we get to see so much of their artistry, which was totally unavailable to us not too long ago??

Lovely. Amazing how ballet technique has evolved after a few decades. Already in the eighties their technique would have seemed old-fashioned. I saw her (Plisetskaya) dance in the eighties in Madrid.

В Большом театре падение нравов и критериев искусства, которые были этими гениями из живущих ныне установлены. А они молчат, их прогнали, их не спросят. Высокое искусство отдано на поругание чиновникам и проходимцам.

I see Maya would actually do fouettés, but when she danced Swan Lake, Odile's coda, she would not do them. Was there a reason why? Anyway, she was the greatest Bolshoi superstar.

The story I read is that during a performance of Swan Lake, Plisestkaya had a vexing, disastrous evening with her fouettés. They fell apart spectacularly. After that evening, Plisetskaya believed her fouettés in Swan Lake were jinxed, so she never did them after that. She would do the thirty-two fouettés in any and every other ballet - Little Humpback Horse, Don Quixote, etc. but never again Swan Lake.

Difficult to imagine anyone other than the youthful Vladimir Vasiliev in this particular role...much prefer the interaction between Ivan and the Little Humpback Donkey in this production. A truly wonderful cast, scenery and costumes...magical 💞 ...the swans in the corps here looking like Parisian ladies with their cigarette holders at times just adds to it 😁
