The Little Mermaid (2023) Film Review

Hi everyone. I'm Bianca and welcome to my first video on my Reel Love channel, where I talk about all films that interest me. I've been so excited about the live-action Little Mermaid since the very beginning. I had the opportunity to go to an early screening of the film and prepare my own opinions regarding the film. Did the film exceed my expectations or disappoint me? Find out my thoughts here.

I appreciate your POV, i.e. not comparing it to the original and not complaining about the re-make trend. Disney still creates so many original films. I don't understand why people are so annoyed by them revisiting old flicks. I'm not sure if I ever watched the original Little Mermaid as a kid, so I saw this with a fresh slate and its easily a 4/5 star film. My biggest complaints were costume design, the staging of Uncharted Waters, and a few odd tonal shifts. The writing of the central love story, with all its new additions, was strong and the cast was great.

You totally did a great job on this video and I am shocked that this is your first one (but maybe for only this channel?). I was scared after seeing Peter Pan and Wendy but I was well familiar with Halle's talents so I knew she would do the best with what she got. I have not yet seen the movie, but my daughter took my granddaughter to see it and other than the underwater scenery being too dark at time my daughter was impressed with the movie. I look forward to seeing it once it streams on Disney+. I was already aware of the talents of the Bailey sisters as a duo but was blown away when I actually got to hear the whole rendition of part of your world song by Halle. I was and am a big fan of Grownish both sisters stared on this sitcom (before Disney came to call Halle, I was hoping she would comeback after shooting completed), Halle character was always quiet, reserved but upfront and seen interview with the sisters during their interview over the cover song Warrior from A Wrinkle in Time and Halle present herself the same way. I might just squeeze a little tighter on the budget and hope to muster going to the movie alone and the expense, so I can support at the theater and see on a big screen. I have seen a lot of bad reviews by critics' videos on KZbin but what they never have done is actually attack her or others acting and singing abilities for the part but address like the Scuttle butt song while having her picture as Ariel on screen. So as we all know the haters going to hate. I am personally over anymore live remakes reimagine or not but would love to see some fresh stories from Disney, go to the library and bring more books alive. Jeez! Great review! I like how you address the probable dislikes at the end which address some people compliants, and we know that the kids are going to love Scuttle butt song. Tysm! I have been a video creator for a while but have never done anything like this (sharing film reviews in an audio/video format). I thought starting a brand-new channel strictly for it would be best. Disney live actions are a hit or miss for me but I was very pleased with this one. And I agree, we need more fresh stories from Disney.

I can't imagine any hate towards the film. I absolutely LOVED it! My entire life I have been a big fan of all things Disney. Ariel is one of my favorite princesses. The live action is amazing and Halle is unbelievably talented! Also Melissa, Javier, Eric, Sebastian are all fabulous! Cannot wait to see this again and again!

I subscribed to your channel because of your incisive review. Many other reviewers came with a pre-judgement of the film, including their distaste for Halle because she didn't look like the animated character from the first film. That bias made their reviews unpleasant to listen to. They couldn't point out what really bothered them about the film, so they talked about CGI and darkness. That's something a 5 year old does not care about 🤣🤣🤣. You did a great job!

I went and saw it, and in my opinion (which a lot of ppl won't like, I'm sure): The movie was okay, though I was rather disappointed in some of the characters performances... I just found some of the characters very boring, due to how little emotion they showed. The worst for me was King Triton, I felt like he barely showed any emotion, unlike his cartoon counter part. I felt that the most emotion came from Ursula and Prince Eric.. And Scuttle was pure annoying, how was she (yes, "she") able to breathe and talk under water? A real Seagull would've died from drowning. So, yeah,.. From 1 to 10%, I'd give the whole movie a 7% 😴

Tbh the original is a classic and for a lot of people, nothing compares to it. You're entitled to your opinion.

Scuttle is a gannet in the live action film, not a seagull. Gannets are diving birds that spend time underwater. Its a fantasy film so it's not a big deal, but the writers at least thought through that.
