Barry and Hynde created a minor classic here. OK, Bond's 'facade' was 'martinis, girls, guns and cars', which made for entertaining scenes...BUT, at his core, Bond was a contract spy & killer with a cold demeanour. He lived a dangerous, transient life with no permanent ties. This song best reflects his real emptiness and sadness. Dalton expressed this well, perhaps too well. Barry's melody is majestic, haunting and nostalgic. Chrissie's vocal is emotional and compelling, its lyrics relating the inner sadness of the character. In under 3 minutes, this song sums up the REAL Bond...lonely, sad & beautiful.

Living daylights is one of my favourite Bond films. For the music and the history, which take the different emotions to the edge. Also, Timothy Dalton was a great Bond, but for legal problems didn´t act in more films. I read that Goldeneye was written for him, but the gap between films was so big that he didn't want to play the role.

"If There Was a Man" is a song by English-American rock band The Pretenders. It was one of two songs recorded by the band for the 1987 James Bond film The Living Daylights, the other being "Where Has Everybody Gone?". "If There Was a Man" was included on the The Living Daylights soundtrack. The song is sung at the finale of the film when Bond reunites with Kara Milovy in her dressing room in Vienna after cello performance, continuing into the end credits.

Perfect send off for the movie's tone. Timothy Dalton's iteration of James Bond is still the very best to me for a lot of reasons, but he was probably the first modern Bond in lots of ways. And what I mean by that is while the pairing with Kara isn't without some of the callbacks to the character as with the defection in the film (The movie presents some of the most consistent spy work on top of great action. Very often in James Bond lore one will of course see many run of the mill action flicks instead of the more discreet things that go with intrigue) to serve with moving the plot's narrative forward, there seems to be genuinely shared feelings between them apart from something just purely lustfully fueled in the moment. Probably one of the more underrated on screen romances to this very day. It wasn't just Bond randomly jumping into bed with every woman he saw. Not to mention how seriously as it's been said that Dalton rightfully took this role.

If anyone asks me who the definitive James Bond is I’m going to say Timothy Dalton. I know that his movies weren’t the most popular and he didn’t appear in the most movies. But I think he combined the quick wit of Moore’s and Brosnan’s Bonds, while also being serious and dark when he had to be.

@Paul Moore. Granted that it is just a matter of opinion, but "The Living Daylights" is not the best Bond film score. It is nowhere near the level of greatness as Barry's 3 Bond film masterpiece scores for "DAF" , " OHMSS" and "YOLT". Although it is very good , it is not even at the level of Barry's three excellent Bond film scores for " FRWL", "Goldfinger", and " Thunderball".

So beautiful! It should be every woman's theme song. I can't really remember how old I was when this movie came out, I think I was 16 but I remember it was one of the best James Bond film I love for my time and the soundtrack was just beautiful especially Patti LaBelle's "If you ask me" to which Celine Dion stole it actually had the nerve to win a Grammy ... Smh.. scandalous!!! The next movie was to come out was License to Kill, the song title "License to Kill" by Gladys Knight was the theme song and it stole my heart. It was so sexy and so seductive and it was a real thrill that they had a black woman singing the theme song. License to Kill " killed" the movie charts that year and will always be the number one among the James Bonds movie's. @michaelbarlow6610
@michaelbarlow6610 4 жыл бұрын
@ piotor arman. Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" although probably the first Bond film song that most movie fans think of when they think of James Bond, unfortunately is too harsh sounding a song. Bassey loathed singing it in concert because it is such a harsh sounding song which didn't fit into the medley of songs she would sing in concert appearances. Although John Barry was correct when he stated that Bassey brought tremendous emotional conviction to the recording of the song "Goldfinger", she unfortunately screeched the song and that combined with the blaringly noisy sound of the horns section of the orchestra on that song make it unpleasant to listen to!

@@Z1KLXW well wait until you see on judgement day when God=Lord Jesus Christ summons both the living and the dead. Unfortunately those that don't accept God=Lord Jesus Christ and His salvation proposal and dont repent from their wrongdoings will be judged by Him and then His angels will throw the poor condemned souls into the lake of fire and brimstone. It is the second death. While those that do accept God=Lord Jesus Christ and His salvation and do repent from their wrongful doings will be spared of His judgement and will recieve the crown of eternal life from Him and will live in peace and in fellowship with Him forever.

Dan Reese Don't fret my friend. The film's producers were clearly saving the very best for last :) Easily the perfect ultimate 007 love song!!! Chrissie is such a phenomenal talent & The Living Daylights is easily 1 of the more phenomenal Bond films!!! Respect :)

DragonHeart613 Though Barry did a instrumental theme during quiet scenes when Bond is with Karia ( I think that was her name ) or when its a romantic scene. When I heard that song during the credits it took years till I had the internet to learn it was Hyde who done that song . I know Barry didn't like Ah-Ha, and was glad He picked Her to do the ending theme but when People were leaving the theater .This was last of Barry's work on Bond films that had a great soundtrack that I had to buy .

At first, this song had to be the main theme, but the producers, chose a-ha, because it was the fashion group and because they were more commercial, however, John Barry always complained about that choice, because the lack of professionalism that that group had

The most underrated Bond movie in the series. Timothy Dalton was GREAT! One of, if not, the best soundtracks in the Bond series.
@Chrisx005x
@Chrisx005x Жыл бұрын
Also, Dalton is the most realistic Bond in getting the delicate balance just right of being something glamorous (Without it being too overpowering say for instance with the likes of Pierce Brosnan's, Sean Connery's and Roger Moore's portrayals which I love all of their iterations, but they obviously fit more of the mythical side of Bond as handsomely "debonair men" but not the most convincing agents which again is no sleight toward the actors as I'm an enormous fan of their filmographies outside their periods as 007) while at the same time virtually an assailant. I like Daniel Craig's version of being so gritty, but it was at times at little too much lopsided without the charm of the character. And don't get me wrong, I'd rather have the constantly irate bitter 007 over lots of the camp from the Roger Moore era of films, but still. Timothy Dalton seemed to play him as both an actual human and a spy.

@@cnounours Thanks for hearing me out. Hopefully, the casting director as with the entire crew has this in mind when starting the new series with the new Bond. The next actor doesn't have to be exclusively like Dalton literally frame by frame as if the role's either an imitation or a remake, but really study Dalton's emotional intensity. The man's so good with his range, he can make the obvious complex or vice versa.

Easily #1 in my personal top 5 favorite 007 songs of all-time, my hands down all-time favorite 007 movie ever!!! The Living Daylights is the very first 007 movie I ever saw & which introduced me to the entire 007 franchise overall!!! Sean Connery may be THE James Bond and Pierce Brosnan & Daniel Craig are both fantastic (Although both Roger Moore & George I always forget his name were utterly crappy inferior Bonds) but for me, Timothy Dalton is James Bond personified :) Everytime I watch both The Living Daylights & License to Kill, I always feel depressed that Dalton never got the chance to make more 007 movies all thanks to stupid-a!@ courtroom legal tug of war garbage that went on for 6 straight years between the film series' producers & several studio bigwigs :(
