One day a kumari named Chanira Bajracharya started crying and her tears didn't stop upto 3 days and her parents called a priest and the priest told its a sign of bad things to the country. And her parents think the Goddess Taleju was angry and they do a forgive pooja. They had prepared completely but before doing the pooja they received a phone call and in that call somebody told the royal family died and the kumari stopped crying and she said my crying duty is done.

I'm from Kolkata and here in bengali culture , some people do kumari puja on the 8th day of durga puja where some girls who didn't get their periods are being worshipped in front of Ma Durga and get gifts ... ( This was started by Swami Vivekananda, who worshipped 9 girls at Belur Math for the first time in 1901) Through kumari puja, we worship nature and show respect towards woman because women are a form of nature... Kumaris are also being worshipped in Meenakshi temple, Madurai and Kanyakumari....

As an Assamese India also contains a festival called Kumari Puja in the 8th day of Durga Puja. A living girl from 3 -12 years can be the Kumari and give blessings to everyone

Yes in our tradition Bengali's Durga Puja the biggest festival where this Kumari Puja happens only one day at Navami Tithi and she gives blessing to everyone after worshiping her and the girl who chooses as a Kumari has no injury or decease and as who becomes Kumari must be innocent so she maybe in 3 to 10 yrs old.. But what is said in this video about Nepali tradition it's totally different and dengerous and later makes some negetive problems in her life... It's too much as per my opinion i don't wanna disrespect their tradition but also because she leads a different life than others for a long time it's harmful for living a normal life after.. that's it!! 😢😢

@@sahelighosh6530 Yes it true. Though where I live the kumari puja is not that infamous or practiced. I was also worshipped as a kumari by a household but it was not such a intense process. At Navami, the household took care of a few girls including me then worship us and then fed us. Though it has been years since I am not a kumari, I still maintain my relationship with the respective household.

Correction: When Kumari is being selected she will be kept in a dark room alone and there is saying that ghost will come to her. She has to stay in that room for 1 night. She had to live with ghost in that room. And ghost will try to make her scared. But if she stays then she will be a Kumari but if she scream then she will be disqualified 😢 And many girls had died in this culture. There is a real haunted story of a girl disqualified to be a kumari named "Matina"

One of the former Kumari, Rashmila Shakya have particularly mentioned that no such rituals were being followed during the selection process. - Now we do sacrifice hundreds of animals during festivities and their head are kept as an offering in the temple. It is a common view during the festivals like Dashain. But participants arent left in there alone with all those mutilated bodies. - Foreigners use these kind of misinformation to make their arguement exotic and convincing to the world without seeking a second opinion. Thats really sad!

Kumari just does not mean virgin . In Nepal kumari has different meaning . In nepal those female who have not become adult are know as Kumari, Kumari also means Princess , Kumari also means virgin and lastly kumari is associated with taleju . ( like wise for male it kumar ). There are lot of misconceptions about our tradition and lack of knowledge. So let us 1st understand why we celebrate kumari jatra . Kumari jatra is celebrated to show respect to the female in the society , to show how female should be treated in the society and mainly to respect their consent . { Also people might complain why does kumari have to leave their position once they had their menstruation is becuz once they become adult they can make their own decisions and it means they can choose their own path . Something which ws restricted for female in the past all around the world . Kumari are replaced to show tht female can choose their own path and take/make their own decisions . Back in the days it portrayed female rights to choose } . Kumari jatra is such an old tradition that give female their right . Back in the day all round the world female did not have these rights . But our tradition and culture gave female these rights .Thus it is unique and very much important celebration. Now tht we know y we celebrate this jatra lets talk about other impo thingh that people don't understand . As Kumari also means Princess and kumari jatra is very old tradition as well as Kumari is associated with taleju . The selection process is also old fashion . Selection process goes like Kumari need to be fair ( it doesn't not mean they hav to be white being fair does not mean being white for those who think this way , it a westerner concept not our ) , kumari should not have a mole and kumari should not have a scratch in her body , kumari eyes should be sharp, kumari should be fearless. + in the kumari selection house only Females and female priest are allowed no men is allowed even if they are male priest . Only the father of the child is allowed . N'd During selection process father stays outside the room and the mother or any other female relatives help the child to undress to check the following conditions of being kumari . ( Side note : As i have already said before it a old tradition. This type of selection conditions was very common for the choosing the Princess all around the world . Like for eg china , korea , Japan , Thailand , Malaysia , Indonesia. ) Again The misconceptions of Not letting kumari read or write is not true . Back in the day people use to train those children to read and write ancient script that the kumari needs to know . Those script weren't normal script those scripts are more vast than the normal script so the kumari used to have more knowledge than the average person Back in the day it was through script people used to gain the knowledge ( like bharmins did ) N'd in the present day too kumari are given the required education they need . A home teacher is assigned to teach just kumari about the basic knowledge they need to cope up with the outer world. Again the misconceptions of kumari not being allowed to touch the ground or meet outsider or not allowed to be happy or smile is a misconceptions. Kumari can't touch the ground only during jatra or just when she is moved from one location to other. Kumari are allowed to touch the ground inside the kumari ghar , they are allowed to play and meet their friends and family . They are also allowed to smile . Its just that kumari can't smile during the ritual or the time of main jatra . As According to one of kimbadanti : When taleju came to the earth as a young adult who hav reached her adulthood . Men harassed her while harassing she shedded tears and when they did not stop she gave them a smile (smirk) in return without saying anything to which the men who harassed her became uncomfortable and felt a kind of unease so they stopped harassing her and when she left the place and the men realised something was off . So they followed her and finally she showed her real self and disappeared . After that the men realised their mistake and had to go through various misfortune in life leading to their dead . Thus it is said that if the kumari gives a smile to a person that means tht the godess taleju can see pass through the people past life , future and their sin . So if kumari smile at you it basically mean she can see your Sins that you may have done , mistake that you have made in past and the time you have left to live . But when she smile at u it also means she might put a curse on you even if the person is innocent person . Leading to something bad in life Therefore kumari can smile in the normal day but she should not smile during the ritual or jatra . ( she isn't forced tho it's her choice whether she smile or not . She he has smiled many time in the past or cried which had lead to misfortune to the entire nation like dead of the our monarchy leading to it becoming the last monarchy of Nepal many people died because of it , different year earthquake , floods etc . she is given an instruction not to smile during the jatra and the consequences of her smiling but again it her wish )

Just to Mention but Newar culture give a lot of importance to uplifting of females in the society Like in past when the husband of a female died they had to be widows for the entire life and they could not have any colour except for white or any form of enjoyment in their life but in Newa culture young female child ( age from 6 to 7 ideal age or 10-12 age } is married to bel a kind of fruit tht last long for years and years then later they are married to sun which is immortal and finally we marry a human form of husband . So even if a Newa female's husband died they had to wear white for certain day to respect the dead one's but once those day are gone they could wear colourful dresses , enjoy life and re-marry if they wanted ( remarriage wasn't something very common tho ) cause only their human form of husband died but the immortal husband is still alive so once the human husband dies they become widow but not completely.

So according to you if they r separated from the society and given everything it will keep them happy?? Just imagine yourself in that position. Okay I will give you a raj mahal, with all food, education, clothes and everything u need for certain years and then I will tell go outside because now u can choose your path, will you be that efficient like normal human beings? Do y know psychology? Read human psychology books please? I respect culture and traditions of course. That doesn't mean for the benefits of country and citizens and in name of culture u will torture those small kids? It may praise lots of other citizens or a symbol to show see female are well respected and can do everything, but still it is a torture for those small kids as they can not lead normal lives for at least 10 to 12 years. Keep yourself or your daughter in that place and then think about the future consequences. There's an old story of a parrot. King brought the parrot from a jungle and let it live in a gold panjuri and thought he is doing great for the parrot, but parrot is a free bird, so although the parrot had every luxury and sufficient food, still it wasn't Happy with its life and it's health got deteriorated with time. When King asked the parrot about it, the parrot told I accept u gave me everything but u took the freedom out of me, which was the biggest happiness for me in my life and your so called luxury is like a prison for me. I hope you can understand my thoughts after reading the short story. I'm not here to change anything or disrespect, just told you my own thoughts.. Take care

@@sudattasud3294 i would suggeste you to watch some interviews of past girls who have been kumari ... they talk about being kumari and their experiences of being kumari . They were more pleased to be kumari and honoured to live life as kumari . If u Don't know the culture and if you haven't see it with ur own eye shut your mouth up !! One of the adult lady you see in vedio as well choose herself to be kumari even after she had the choice to leave the life of being kumari . she decided to stay and live as a kumari . It not like we force them to be kumari they are very much given the choice to leave the position of beings the kumari . There are atlest 3 kumari chosen during the selection process . There is the 1st kumari which is the main kumari and the other two are the substituted kumari If the main kumari is sick or she does not want to be kumari after being chosen as kumari she can refuse to live as kumari. Thus come the role 2nd kumari which replaces the originally that had been chosen to be main kumari . Till now there aren't kumari that wanted to leave their position of being kumari. Yet there were kumari that had to be replaced because of the sickness . So would you just shut up !! Like can't you read it an OLD tradition back in the day female were treated as trash ... this tradition uplift the female energy . even the KING bow down to her feet . When the Royal British family came to Nepal they as well Bow down to her 😑🙄 . So stop with all the child abuse aligation and all that shit if you haven't seen with your own eye or experience the culture by yourself . Yes there are good and bad things that needs to be shown . Yes i do agree with that but if you won't do the deeper research about certain matter that you are talking about then its always gonna end up like this . AND no they don't have to live as kumari for 10 to 15 years . They have to leave immediately ( which does take some time for the ritual and stuff but yah ) once they have reached their adulthood ie their period 🤦‍♀️ . It a mental trauma says an outsider that haven't seen or experience it ( the irony ). Well i will take it in a form of concern , so hope you get to learn more things and hopefully you will do some further more research about this topic before commenting. I did not just comment randomly to just make things up . I comment becauz many things weren't mention in the vedio which was nessecary to mentioned or else ppl would go around saying it a kind of torture or wht if we sexual abuse them and bhal bhal bhal . Trust me no KZbinr in general start with the main things that is why we celebrate it . They directly jump into saying there is a living godess and blah blah blah like they might talk about selection process but they wont emphasise on the fact that its an old tradition thus the selectio processis like that . They talk about kumari need to be fair but they wont mention that in Nepal being fair does not mean being white . This all creates a negative image of our culture when in reality it quite the opposite of it . They would talk abt our culture as if we are doing some kind of illegal activity. For the kindness info there is not just a living goddess but also 2 living god which are ganesh and kuber . They live the same life as kumari yet people won't talk abt them . Also during the main event we pull the rath on the 1st day kumari ruth are pulled only with men portraiting that we female can do task like men does . It to show we are equal to them . It shows tht its not only men that can pull the rath . We do that to show our respect to her as well . It the sisterhood or girlhood lets say . Now take this tradition and think abut the early 17 , 18 and 19 centuries. Imagine this tradition back then . You as a whole community had to be strong enough to break the world stereotypes of being a female . If you do join our tradition to the historical time you would automatically see the importance but if you can't then wht do i say on tht . This might come off rude yet tht not my intention but I'm not gonna lie i am kinda pissed off by the aligation that the people put in My Culture .

I am a Nepali and I have always been intrigued by the Kumari tradition. Although I am not from the Newari community, many of my relatives and friends belong to it, which is why I came across the Kumari culture. When I first heard about it, I decided to do some research and discovered everything that was mentioned in the video. It brought up mixed emotions for me, especially when I learned about the dark path and the way to select a Kumari. One thing that the video didn't mention is that people tend to avoid associating with a former Kumari once she's dethroned because it's believed that she brings bad luck to those around her. This culture and belief have been running for ages and may not be easily changed, but I hope that people can bring some changes to this tradition so that little girls can enjoy their childhood, live like normal children, and have a normal life ahead of them.

@priyankakumarisingh4511 you should watch some interviews of the previous kumari and then decide if any harm was done to them. Actually, they take pride in the culture despite many hassles to reintegrate into the society. Also, many things have changed. They are provided with tutor and education materials and some Kumaris are even happily married. I think it's a lifestyle that is not mainstream rather than child abuse.

There is a short Webtoon "For the Sake of Sita". It is also based on the Kumari practice. It might be not for everyone but it gives an insight.

I read the whole thing few years ago. The concept was good and the end was mindblowing. But actually, that is not how a dethroned Kumari is treated in reality.

Huge fan from Kathmandu Nepal...you should define an unique festival indrajatra when goddess Kumari is being worshipped and came out from kumarighar and publicly shown to the people by putting Kumari in the chariot...this festival is grand festival of Kathmandu

One suggestion for you, when you research about Nepal and Nepal related things, it will be easier for you to pronounce the names correctly if u search for them in devnagari (देवनागरी).. because we use the same script.. you would have been able to pronounce the words like तलेजु, मल्ल, दशैं etc correctly if you had searched for the names in Nepali language... not for everything ofcourse, we speak different languages but when u are not sure about certain pronunciations

As old tradition has been reformed too They are getting education and all form of life touch while being kumari .. For better knowledge please watch out the video of ex kumari maiju interviews . I know it's connected to religious sentiments but this Kumari tradition is extremely injustice with those girls. Because when she grows up and starts getting her periods she has to live a very bad life , she can't marry so she has to live her entire life in a temple begging for her basic needs 😢

Wtf. She gets homeschooled by best tutor while being kumari. They gives exam too inside the palace. Later they can Marry and do jobs. She gets respected and long life benefits from government. We Nepalese don't even beg.

@@Itayllerrrrr I'm not an expert but as much I have read Buddha attained enlightenment at Bodh Gaya under the Banyan tree. He was actually born in Lumbini located in the Terai plains of southern Nepal to the royal parents of Shakya clan. As much I can remember, this fact about his birth can found in the inscriptions of the pillar erected by Ashoka. This is what I know . But do tell me if I'm wrong.
