my grandpa came to the U.S from yucatan and I am now diving into my family history. One day I hope to keep the maya language alive

I usually approach these kinds of things with apprehension, but you did a spectacular job. You really let these people explain themselves what their heritage and their existence means to them, with open arms and open mind, and that was something special. Thanks so much

Indigenous is a term for all South Americans, South American is really a new word that categorizes the people, another example for a category of different oriented race is Slavic, English, Asian, many people don't realize that Indians are considered Asian, they are really a mix of indigenous and Asian, there are even mixes of Arabic and European countries like hungaria, or turkey. It's very fascinating

This man has a lot of courage not only to go to a distant land with a distinct culture, but also to talk about his brother like that.

This was really beautiful! Connecting to your brother while learning about the Mayan view on the deceased... This made this documentary the best.

It would have been so beautiful if the Mayan culture was never destroyed by Spanish . Now Mayans dont even know who they were, what were their rituals, religion, they dont even have their own names. Mostly European Christian names. Christianity was imposed on them. Now people want to learn that culture but no one blames people who converted them and destroyed their identity.
@alicesenz63743 жыл бұрын
Mayan culture does still live on though. Mayan languages are still spoken natively by millions of people in Mexico and central America. The colonists did destroy a lot of the traditions and the Indigenous people do need more protections to be sure, but there is still a living Mayan culture that has lived on.

People were forcibly converted and resettled into Spanish style homes it appears. So you cannot blame those who converted.
