When I was a child I used to hike Rose canyon in San Diego. We always found king snakes, rattlesnakes and horned lizards. It was a magical time to be alive.

I also remember playing in Rose Canyon in the 60’s, we’re very lucky to have experienced California before it was ruined.

OMG, its a national event. Im 64 and as a child I ALWAYS had a huge garden and horny toads were everywhere. I can still remember the way the bellies felt. They disappeared exactly like the huge mudholes full of tadpoles. It was always a race of nature whether they'd lose their tails 1st or if they puddle would dry up

Thanks TCR. I fit that description. Gray hair and a native born Texan. I spent summers in west TX. Horny toads were a part of what I looked forward to. They were plentiful. I live in the Valley and never see any.

Yep ... use to find them everywhere close to my house in Northgate Addition in the Irving, Texas pastures where Los Colinas is now. But the Golf courses took their habitat.

Hey! I learned a thing or two about these critters. They look fearsome. But they are only truly fearsome to their prey! Only in Texas! 🦎🌵😉

The horned toad isn't exclusive to Texas. I grew up with them in the mountains of California, before it became Commiefornia. I've often wondered what happened to the Horny toads. They were so much fun to find & love on. We were all fascinated that they could spit blood from their face. We were raised to be kind & respectful of all nature. Thank you, for helping to bring back the Horned toad.❤🙏❤️

This is awesome. I have not seen one of these horned lizards (Horny Toads) with my own eyes in over 40 years. I loved to see and hold them when I was a child!

Getting more gray hairs and still haven't seen any in the wild, but my parents did in the Houston area. Fire ants spread there I believe first and have a place on Stillhouse Hollow Lake now that looks like good habitat for them, but it's overrun by fire ants, especially on Corps of Engineers land.

Use to catch them and put them in my pockets and bring them in the house, my mom would throw a fit. My dad and me would laugh so hard. Funny, my mom passed away in '94 and haven't seen a horny toad since. I love you and miss you momma, and I miss them little horny toads, takes me back to a much simpler place 😢
