Hmmm,I wonder if the people who give thumbs down are coal company shareholders?
@climbtosafety47302 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, wonder how much coal energy you used today? Amazing song and agree with the sentiment, but hard to say that coal hasn’t brought this country (and the world) an amazing amount of prosperity, as energy has not only improved the quality of life, but saved millions from death.
@morganbeasley2 жыл бұрын
@@climbtosafety4730 Just because people use coal doesn't mean the companies have to be utter assholes about it. Also coals time was done 40-50 years ago and has just been on federal life support since. It is a tiny sector of the economy that utterly ruins landscapes. The coal companies seem to living rent free in your head, having you believe they ever acted with benevolence, ever.
@charlesbrown448324 күн бұрын
@@morganbeasley Coal accounted for about 20% of electricity production in America during 2024. I’d hardly call that a “tiny sector of the economy.” But you’re right, it’s time was 50 years ago. Since then the government shut down the companies in the coal belt. Millions of people depended on those jobs, it was the only industry we had. The promise made was federal investment into new industry to replace the jobs lost for the people in this area. Investment which, obviously, never came. We don’t give the first shit about the companies, they were only a vessel from which the jobs were delivered. What we do give a shit about is parents not having to go hungry so their children can eat dinner. Or children having shoes for all four seasons of the year instead of only the winter time. Coal gave us those things, the government took them away. I always hear the anti-mining sentiment from your type, but I’ve never once heard the “but how are these miner’s families going to survive” sentiment. You only think as far as stopping the mines, you don’t think about the people that are affected by that. You let us power the country for a century, then pulled the rug out from under us and laughed while you did it.

This is an incredible song, perfectly written, with harmony that sends chills up my spine. It brought me to the brink of tears today as I listened to it ~45 times on Spotify on a long trip for work. Wow! I’m sorry for being 4 years late to the party.

This song caused me to have the exact same reaction. Weeks later, I'm still listening to it daily. Pretty sure their purpose in life was to write this song.

You piss in my boot and you tell me it's rained. You smell like money on land you reclaimed. Top off that sludge box- run black through our sinks. Heavy on the corn when you fill up our drinks. Dig out our coal - turn it into cash Starve out our homelands but keep yer' wallets fat. Shake down our houses with yer' big ole drag lines and bury our family deep in them mines. (CHORUS) Why not plant Cigarette Trees? They'd burn faster than you'd log these. Fill up them valleys and slurry them streams but big old King Coal don't you lose any sleep. Strip off her top - knock er' to er' knees. Disgrace that big ole mountain with yer' broad form dig Kill animal and human - every plant on earth Can't help but leave the sky but we can still flip you the bird. What will we do with no mountains to climb? When you disappear and shut down the mines. Pray God gives you mercy in the place you should dwell. That you don't burn like coal when you're sentenced to hell. (Repeat Chorus) The Local Honeys "Cigarette Trees"
