Ayngelina, Esmeraldas’s food looks real good. I am glad that you made Esmeraldas a featured video because up until now everyone thought it was like the Wild West. And what you said about the quality of the cooks and of the food was evidently true. The food in all the places where you stopped to eat looked delicious and the servings were hearty as well. By judging by the folks on the beach and how you described everyone behavior, I think that Esmeraldas has gotten a bum rap because it is so close to the Colombian border. This video was super entertaining!

Andres hadn't been there in 10 years and so we were both going in very carefully because we also heard terrible things. I'm going to do a video about safety there I think it's very much like Guayaquil. You just need to know where to go. We have traveled there safely but there are just some neighbourhoods there's no way we can go into. The same is true for Esmeraldas. But at the beach on a Saturday I saw far less people drinking, only one person drunk, and it wasn't a party like you see in other towns. It was a lot of families and people with friends. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that throughout the whole time we met such nice people who were willing to talk about where we could and couldn't go. Everyone was so happy to see tourists and were so helpful.

We love your food reviews! You're good at trying food and making us sense what is it like. I live in the Andes and at home we can cook the rice so it comes the same as if it were cooked in the coast. Greetings from Quito.

@@ayngelina We prepare it in a conventional pot, not in a rice maker. We use a type of rice named 'arroz flor', that's the one preferred by coastal people, but we get it from Supermaxi as 'Arroz Real' (Real is a brand). We use 1 measure of rice per 2-2.5 measures of water approximately. We wash the rice, we let the water boil first (otherwise cold water can break the ice) and then we add the rice to the boiling water, we add oil and salt to taste. We let it boil at medium-high until it dries a little bit, and then we close the lid and simmer at very low temperature until rice it's done. You should stir 2 to 3 times so rice doesn't stick that much. And that's it! People in the Andes tend to prepare rice differently and use another type of rice (they love to use one named 'arroz envejecido'). That's why it tastes different. Some blame the altitude but that's an excuse.

Todo se ve demasiado delicioso, ese bolon de camarón muero por probarlo! El ensumacao nunca lo había escuchado parecía una cazuela pero después vi que es una sopa de mariscos con leche de coco y maní, interesante, algún día lo probare! El sancocho de pescado me gusta mucho, en mi casa lo solemos hacer aunque no tan espeso sino como que más líquido igual se ve bien rico! Y ese corviche, amo el corviche! Otro plato típico de allá el famoso tapao arrecho! Acá la fruta de chontaduro solo se lo consume en el oriente de ecuador, allá hacen colada de chontaduro o se comen así la fruta y también creo que hacen helado y otras frutas exóticas de allá, se que en Colombia esa fruta es mucho conocida y se come en todos lados, acá solo en el oriente se lo come por desgracia, nunca lo he probado

Y eso que te faltó probar muchos platos típicos, e inclusive muchos platos comunes, la provincia como tal no es peligrosa, más bien es una de las más seguras de la costa, sólo que el estigma le ah dado esa fama de antaño, claro hay partes complejas principalmente en ls ciudades como en toda ciudad, pero la comida donde vallas no decepciona. Sabías que la comida es el principal motivo por el que sufren para adaptarse muchos esmeraldeños cuando salen de su provincia, sea dentro de Ecuador o en el exterior.

Sure you'd need to fly from Esmeraldas to Quito and take the flight from there. It stops in Guayaquil along the way to pick up passengers before handing in Galapagos.

So in local spots for the most part they only sell instant, because that's just what locals drink. But in a few places you can get pasado, especially in tourist coffee shops because in the Andes they drink pasado. But when we go to the coast, we actually travel with a mini coffee maker just in case.

Sadly I'm Canadian and from the East Coast, which means sometimes I pronounce things in a funny accent 😊 but I am working on it. Every day Andres corrects how I pronounce things. So some words I've got and other words I still need to work on.
