Explaining grammar rules requires very good knowledge and you can't expect everyone to know each grammatical rule, people learn but forgets over time and explaining these rules in English also need an advanced level of English, which you can find someone having both at the same time rarely in Turkey.

Since native speakers of a language tend to absorb it rather than learn, that happens. But once you learn something there are very few exceptions in grammar so it'll be easy to remember :)

I have struggled to learn Turkish for years but found it impossible. However, I thought this lesson was accessible and comprehensible: well done! The ‘hard’ consonants are not easy to recall but that might improve with practice. Speaking as a teacher, I think this is an excellent lesson.

I know this is a video for vowel harmony practice but I'd like to point out something for people who'd like to further their writing in Turkish. At 10:07 we see some examples with 'proper names'. In speaking we usally follow the rule in the video by following the vowel harmony, such as "Gaziantep'te"; however, in writing the suffixes that come after an apostrophe are always written as -de or -da because the word and the suffix are seperated by the apostrophe. So, in writing, it is always written as "Gaziantep'de" rather than "Gaziantep'te" despite the harmony rule.

Gittim=simple past tense Gitmişim= past tense +rumor (learned past tense ) Gitmiştim=past tense +rumor +know past tense

We can't simply translate this tenses to English. "Gittim" "I went" if you use this tense that means you witnessed that action. You can use "Verb-mişim" when you didn't aware of what you did. "6 yerine 5 kalem almışım." "(I notice that) I bought 5 pencil instead of 6." You can also use when you performed an act that pleased you or you did properly. "Bir makarna yapmışım ki tatman lazım." "I made a (well-cooked) pasta that you should taste." That usage sometimes can imply an exageration. "Bir keresinde tek oturuşta 6 elma yemiştim" "I once ate 6 apples in one sitting." "İstanbul'a gitmiştim." "I have been to Istanbul." If you want to say "She have gone to school" then you should just say "Okula gitti" because there is no perfect tense in Turkish. In order to point out the sense of perfect tense we need other words, for instance we say "Demin okula gitti." "demin" means "just before". Other usages "Ocağı söndürmedin mi?" "Haven't you turned off the oven?" "Söndürmüştüm." "(I am not certainly sure but I think) I have." "Pencereyi örtmüştüm ama odaya döndüğümde açıktı." "I had closed the window but when I returned to room it was open." These are the examples that come to my mind.

@@defnesaglam2368 No, "gitmiştim" is "I had gone". It's past of the past. For example "Beni aradığında çoktan sahile gitmiştim". (When you called me I had already gone to the beach). Another one: "Sana bunu yapma demiştim, neden yaptın?" (I had told you not to do this, why did you do?). And sometimes we use it for distant past: 15 yıl önce ameliyat olmuştum. (I had surgery 15 years ago ) But for this one you don't necessarily use -miştim, you can also use -tim. So it is also correct to say 15 yıl önce ameliyat oldum. It has completely the same meaning. But -miştim gives more of a "distant past" vibe.

It's interesting that in Dutch grammar we have a mnemonic very similar to Fıstıkçı Şahap: "'t fokschaap" (the breeding sheep) or, alternatively, " 't kofschip" (some sort of ship).
