SPOILERS wow i didn't catch the thing about the kids names being weird because of Nona knowing so many languages. then again not knowing what's going on in a locked tomb book is pretty much the normal experience i think. can't wait for Alecto the ninth to come out, hope we get some of the old Gideon and Harrow dynamic back. as someone who is a sucker for romance i really want them to get a happy ending, kinda scared they are gone end up like camila/palamedes and become 1 person

Sometimes I feel like the names is the only part I did understand right away 😂 I feel like if it ends with Gideon and Harrow combining like Paul it would be a really weak ending? Like they already could have done that in Harrow and gotten it over with so it almost feels like a cop out to have them in the same body a second time? But maybe I’m wrong and Muir will pull that off?

Keeping harrow and gideon apart for 3 freaking books is just unbearable anymore... First two books I thought were a slow burn preparation for an epic reunion between two quite great and entertaining main characters. Yet all we got was john spewing some shitty context for the story. And We spent a whole book keeping up with a bunch of kids in a school and got two brief little lines from gideon. The writer's a genius no doubt, yet she drifted soooo far away from what actually matters most... for what??

I would argue that "what matters most" is pretty subjective, to be fair! Like I think everyone wants to see Gideon get a body back and her and Harrow reunite, but what's most important to the author is usually telling the story the way that they feel it needs to be told! I know Muir said in an interview that initially before Nona the Ninth was its own book this whole book was going to be part 1 of Alecto, so clearly the author feels its an important story to tell! I, personally, had a lot of fun with Nona, but I do agree with you that I didn't find a lot of connection to the main story for quite a lot of it. To be fair though, that's because I absolutely never have any damn clue what is happening in these books so the connection was probably there clear as day and I just missed it, knowing me! But I did love the John chapters a lot, they felt super welcome to me after always being curious about how things became the way they are!

@@ZIMmissesyou SPOILER ALERT I'm glad you enjoyed the world building, it was the only positive point in this book. It still is a great book because seriously Tamsyn Muir is probably an all timer yet I can't help the feeling that the story drifted waaay beyond what it should have. Throughout all 3 books, it would've been perfectly normal to insert some context yet in this book I feel we spent a lot of time poking at shit that does not really push the story forward... while a lot of ambiguity still remained about key points of the story. So much for world building. The confusion it's not just you. I'm furious that I spent so much time learning silly names of a bunch of kids in a school while we completely ignore what happened to gideon all this time. Where's harrow's soul, what's the deal with anastacia and why alecto is offering fealty to harrow? It's frustrating. We'll spend at least another year waiting for our main characters to resume the story and I'm not quite sure it'll be satisfying enough whatever the outcome (just because the author kept them apart for an eternity).
