The Locomotions 60 years Apache

The Locomotions, Het is nu precies 60 jaar geleden dat Hank Marvin en The Shadows de gitaar instrumental Apache opnamen. The Shadows die als band de basis legde voor de klassieke bandbezetting, bestaande uit een sologitaar, slaggitaar, basgitaar en drums. Zij hebben over heel Europa duizenden jongeren geïnspireerd om gitaar te gaan spelen en een band op te richten. Ook The Locomotions.

Brilliant, The Shadows have always been my favourite instrumental group, and As a drummer in a local band I was fortunate to meet Tony Meehan who gave me some useful tips which improved my playing. Came across The Locomotions by accident and their version of Apache is excellent. I will definitely listen to more of their music. Modern music will not stand the test if time like many of the bands from the 60’s.

I believe you do modern bands an injustice! Sure, a decent number of bands from the 60s have been, and still are, successful, but plenty disappeared as well! Popularity of bands oscillates and good ones WILL come through! The 60s certainly a decade where bands, as entertainment, were extremely popular! And even as a big Shadows fan - brother being a Cliff one - I've always considered Hank to be rather 1-dimensional! To me, Mark Knopfler, who idolised Marvin, is a better 'musician', and Eric Clapton probably is too! Gilmour, Wters and co, who started in the same era and have metamorphed into an orchestra have been far more developmental too!
