Warsan Shire would give everything just to hear the rhythm of your voice, To feel the weight of each syllable brush against my ears like a whispered confession. But I know-oh, I know-your name is a sanctuary, And for those like me, it’s a gate left unopened. It’s not that I don’t care; it’s that my tongue stumbles, Tripping over the unfamiliar contours of your sacred sounds. I am no one, no keeper of the dialect you deserve, And yet, here I stand, in the shadow of a shooting star, One that only dares to exist because it seeks your light. Your name, You Want to hear, A melody I can write but never quite sing, A hymn too divine for my broken language to hold. It lingers on my lips, heavy, untamed- ....
