My dad could recite the beginning intro to The Lone Ranger word for word up until right before his passing. He was 82 years old, and I can remember him saying how he learned it as a child while listening to the radio.

Fred Foy was the voice that announced the Lone Ranger program and I too learned the whole intro to the show and I can still repeat it 75+ years later.

I listen to every show when I was a Kid back in the 40's and 50's. I am trying to remember what was on Tuesday and Thursday. I think it was Straight Arrow. at least in New York.

In February 1952, General Mills sponsored "THE SILVER EAGLE" (featuring Jim Ameche as a Northwest Mounted Policeman) on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm(et).

Joseph Fitzpatrick Golden Arrow. Also, The Green Hornet, Hopalong Cassidy, Sky King, Lash LaRue, Bobby Benson and his B-Bar-B Riders, Tales from the Crypt, The Shadow, Roy Rogers, Topper, Sergeant Preston of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Fibber Magee and Molly. I guess there were a few more but those are the ones that come to mind. They were great entertainment. Kids have great imaginations.

I listened to these as a kid as well. But I was born in 99. I think I'm one of the few people of the new generation to still know these.

Skysocal Balen - (The Old Timer from Fibber McGee) Well, that’s purty good, Johnny, but that ain’t the way I heerd it. Way I heerd it, one feller sez t’other feller, “Sa-a-ay, he sez....” I’m just a KID - 67 - but I remember a couple and discovered a WHOLE lot more of these nuggets. Yep, sure did, Johnny! 😀😁😂 (Them funny face are pointed at ME!)

I used to stand on a chair so that I could be close to the radio and listen better, it was on our refrigerator. Brace Beemer was the only Lone Ranger I knew, Fred Foy was the only announcer I knew too. When I first saw the Lone Ranger on a 6 in screen tv, I was a little disappointed in his (Clayton Moore) voice, It was not quite the same as what I was used to on radio.

Your imagination sounds great! Mine does the same thing and reality always seems to disappoint!

I too listened to Fred Foy introduce Brace Beemer as the Lone Ranger. I laid on the floor in front of our console radio and hung on every word of the players. I never watched the Lone Ranger on TV because it wasn't as I had pictured it in my mind at 7 years old.. The images in my mind were all the pictures that I needed and they remain with me to this day at 83.

Oh yeah, the show was sponsored by "Cheery Oats" later to be Cheerios.

@@roypeaslee1305 I must agree with you on this, and that being those images that our minds conjured up, in fact, in many ways, it was our imagination that sometimes outdid what any movie could fling out. As for watching the Lone Ranger on TV?, well, I did, but it was never the same and actually, did not hold the same fascination for me, as did the radio version. As I said, Clayton Moore certainly did not have the 'voice' of Brace Beemer, and THAT, was the game changer for me.

Hard to believe that even as late as 1952, the Ranger was still heard three nights a week on radio [Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 7:30pm(et)], as well as seen on TV (featuring Clayton Moore, on Thursday nights at 7:30). This is the "syndicated" version of the episode, minus the national General Mills sponsor I.D.'s and commercials [presented during the music fills]. John Todd is "Tonto"; Fred Foy was the announcer.

I am 78 years old and listened to the original Lone Ranger broadcasts on WXYZ when I lived in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. I sent away for a Lone Ranger atomic bomb ring. I have 2 of them now which I bought on the internet. Can anyone tell me who the gruff, old bad guy was in those programs?Norm Cassil

A little surprised that the ending was a bit abbreviated. Usually the voice over went like this....."The Lone Ranger, a copyrighted feature of the Lone Ranger, Incorporated, is created by George W. Trendle....produced by Trendle, Campbell, Meurer, Incorporated.....directed by Charles D. Livingstone, and edited by Fran Striker. The part of the Lone Ranger, is played by Brace Beemer. Your announcer, Fred Foy."

“From out of the past come the thundering hoofbeats of the great horse, Silver. The Lone Ranger RIDES AGAIN!” “Come on, Silver! Let’s go, big fellow! Hi-yo Silver! AWAY!”
