And sending Henry to karate would have actually been a good thing for him, not just so he could follow his dreams. Henry does have anger management and aggression issues in the show, and martial arts teaches people not just how to utilise violence, but how to control it and use it constructively. It could have shown him a constructive outlet for his angry and violent feelings, and taught him that it's not wrong to have emotions including anger, as long as you control them and they don't control you.

The sad thing is that Henry has a lot of potential. While he does poorly in school he’s quite clever in general as he almost always comes up with cunning plans. Also his poor school performance seems to be due to laziness not any lack of intelligence and he’s got some talent in music and science. He also has moments of kindness such as giving Peter a trophy and asked for nothing in return and took the fall for him when Peter broke a vase. He’s a good kid at heart who needed a family who loved him.

My two roommates might have been randoms assigned to me, but they didn't make me fear for my safety or constantly steal my things. I also realized just how fiercely I wanted to avoid ever living like that again. They're still angry at me for enforcing one of my boundaries towards my brother (ie. Example: I'm listening to music on my smart TV my mom would say thus us giving me a headache but if it was siblings listening to kids truck songs it okay. Another example is: if I hot my siblings out of angering parents yell at me but if it was them they'd say "then stay far away from them". One more example is: if I accidentally break there toys it's a big problem. But if they break my stuff is okay. Once my mom said she'd send me to behaviour school because I'm "uncontrollable" I remember crying in my room that night....

When Horrid Henry grows up I would like to see him finally snap and lose his temper with his parents, and unleash all his bottled up built up anger out towards his parents. I wanna see grown up Henry finally stand up to his parents and give them an earful for how they treated him as a child, and finally cut all ties with his abusive parents and move as far away from them as possible. Horrid Henry as an adult should tell his parents to never contact him, never come near him and never speak to him again, and if Henry has kids and the parents come near their grand kids, Horrid Henry should demand that his parents stay away from his kids before he calls the police

I watched Horrid Henry as a young child during the late 2010s. Now at 16, looking back, my perspective on Henry and his dynamics have changed an awful lot after reading a subreddit on his truth back in august 2023, and this video also, I feel more sorry for Henry than I ever have. His parents are absolutely horrid parents, and they gaslight Henry and Peter in different ways each. For Henry, he is told he is a horrid child, and for Peter, he is told he is Perfect. No fucking parent should tell one child they are perfect. Parents must accept and especially love them for who they are. And if Henry was really horrid, he wouldn't have his good old friends like Ralph and Al etc. But he has them, which is very fortunate. So yeah, Horrid Henry is technichally a child who has been abused, gaslighted, neglected, and blackmailed. Poor boy

Man, rewatching this show now, Henry’s parents (mainly the mom) are just atrocious and horrible parents. While Henry can be a horrid kid, the parents are both to blame for this as they constantly shower Peter with praise, gifts, everything HE wants, and even name him “Perfect Peter”, they clearly favor their younger son more! While with Henry, all they do is just shout at him, laugh at him, and they don’t even let him do any of the things HE wants and force him to do what PETER wants, heck, they won’t let him listen to the music HE likes, read the comics HE likes reading, and they even laughed at him on TV and didn’t even try to comfort him when he feels embarrassed, and they ask why is he horrid, gee I wonder why… Heck, I remember from an episode (the one where Henry writes a diary), his father literally says and I quote: “Why can’t you be more like Peter!?” I’m not even joking. The reason why Henry’s horrid in the first place is his parents, and Peter is also a victim cause he fears that a small mistake from him will result in him being banished from his parents. Man, watching this show has a kid, I thought Henry was a bad kid (and he is in the books), but in this show and rewatching it older, Henry deserved a little better, sure he’s a horrid kid, but the parents are easily to blame for their favoritism, while he (Henry) deserved to be punished in SOME area where he was being naughty, he (and maybe Peter) really deserves better parents.

Was Henry worse in the books than in the show? Yes? But were his and Peter’s parents any better? No. In the story entitled “Horrid Henry’s homework” in the “Horrid Henry and the Mummy’s Curse” Henry is trying his hardest at his spelling and is sent to his room to study and when he’s trying to relax from his away from his parents getting on his case. At one point in the story, Henry was listening to music (way too loudly may I add) both his mother and father storm upstairs and do they help him and support him? No. Instead they SCREAM at him to do his homework his father, verbatim, screeches “IF YOU DON’T GET EVERY SINGLE WORD RIGHT IN YOUR TEST TOMORROW THERE WILL BE NO TELEVISION FOR A WEEK!” Does that sound like a good parent would say to their son who’s potentially being abused by his own parents and failing school? No!

About the part of this video, from 1:47 to 3:05 : At Henry’s age, I always loved Arts & Crafts. When I was a student of Grade 4 at school, I wanted to pick ‘Art & Design’ as one of the many extra curricular activities offered by the school during the after-class hours once every week on Thursdays. My mom instead, put me under a lot of pressure to take ‘classical singing’, which has been more of… …her thing instead of my thing. My mom always doubted me and frequently claimed that I was “too irresponsible” and that, I would “loose all my paintbrushes” in the Art class 😶 All those doubts she had about me were not true. Yet in her eyes, I was always the “careless” child who “never understood the value of a useful object”. She even managed to tell my class teacher for Grade 4, that I’ll be “in classical singing” instead of Art & Design. It was already too late for me to change from her final decision to my final decision and the school, never allowed me to switch from classical singing to Art & Design. Henry’s mother’s attitude towards Henry… literally reminded me about the way my mom treated me when I was at Henry’s age 😭 If you ask me what I meant by classical singing : I actually meant, songs written and composed by Bengali poets like Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam; like me, these two 19th to 20th century poets were also Bengali by ethnicity, so it’s obvious… most of their songs were written and composed in the Bengali language, my native language. I’m from Dhaka, Bangladesh 🇧🇩 and even though so many of these written and composed songs are considered as a national treasure here; drawing, colouring and crafting still attracted most of my attention and my mom… never never never… understood what I wanted. She was too hell-bent focused on what she wanted and like Henry’s mom… she always shoved her own choices down on my shoulders and expected a lot of unrealistic expectations from me. In other words : my choices NEVER mattered to her ! 💔 I felt trapped inside the classical singing class; not only because this extra curricular activity wasn’t my cup of tea, also… because, some random boy in my class who had a huge crush on me (even though I wasn’t so interested in him back in those days), was also there !! 😵 …and it’s true. I was l i t e r a l l y trapped in there, with him 😱 * *cries* * 😭😭😭 3 days before the school’s extra curricular activities officially started, our Grade 4 teacher stepped inside our class and openly announced, who will be taking part in which extra curricular activity every Thursday after school. By the time my name was mentioned and that I’ll be “taking part” in classical singing (under my mom’s pressure of course 🤦🏻♀️), this boy immediately raised his hand, got the teacher’s attention and told her that, he “wants to take singing too” ! 😳 It shocked me… the rest of the class started staring at me and I buried my head on my bench table, embarrassed because… all these boys and girls around me knew about “it” : about how that one particular boy in our Grade 4 class who was “head-over-heels” crazy about me ! 😭 He was extremely clever ! He didn’t pick an extra cirricular activity subject beforehand… he intentionally waited for me to pick something from the list, so that he could end up inside the same classroom with me ! His plans automatically worked after the teacher’s announcement but at the same time, I couldn’t blame him because he and everybody else in the school were totally unaware of the fact : I was pressured into “classical singing” by my own mom, specially when I originally wanted to take Art & Design from the first place and even if I was ever allowed to take Art & Design, he still would’ve stalked me all the way in there anyways because… he was crazily obsessed with me and did everything he could to get closer to me ! 😵 My mom was practically unaware about the damage she caused with her own choice of the extra curricular activity. I refused to even… sing inside the classical singing class every Thursday after school. The presence of that boy from my class back then, made me even more uncomfortable because I couldn’t imagine myself singing along with him (which became his own ultimate “dream come true” moment), the situation he easily took advantage of. When the school’s music teacher reported this problem to the school’s then-vice principal, the situation became drastic to the point where my mom was called inside the then-vice principal’s office. The school’s then-vice principal was not a nice person. She had a horrible reputation of ridiculing parents of children who : 1) never had regular attendance, 2) never wore their uniforms, shoes and socks neatly, 3) always failed in almost every subject (specially mandatory ones like English, Mathematics and Bengali) 4) never paid their monthly tuition fees on time and particularly… 5) refused to take part in the weekly extra curricular activities after school which were, apparently… arranged by her during the 2002-2003 school year because : she started running the school’s administration and took over it back in the school year, 2001-2002 and since she claimed the power, she could do whatever she wanted. As long as she ran the school’s administration throughout the entire 2000s decade, she practically abused that power with her own bare hands… which meant, she could throw derogative insults about me, to my mom inside her office room behind closed doors whenever she wanted. When my mom was told : “Your daughter is not singing during the after-school extra curricular activity program I arranged for the whole school. I can’t let the reputation of my school get spoilt because of one particular child.”, my mom could’ve easily admitted, that it was she… who didn’t let me pick Art & Design but put me under pressure to take classical singing. Instead of admitting her mistake to the school’s then-vice principal, she threw tantrums at me in the car by the time she picked me up from school. In the eyes of the school’s then-vice principal, I was among those specific kids in the school who were “nothing but a nuisance”. 😣 All of these wouldn’t have ever happened if she allowed me to take the extra curricular activity I was comfortable with 🎨🖌️ instead of pressuring me to take the extra curricular activity she was comfortable with 📖🎶 You can just call the 11 year old me from 2003, the real life female version of Henry and my mom’s 40 year old self from that same time period, the real life version of Henry’s mom 🤧 One of the particular parts about my adolescent life that hurt me the most was : my little sister and two of my first cousins from my mom’s side of the family who used to go to that same school with me, were allowed to pick the extra curricular activities of their choices and yet… when it came to me, I wasn’t allowed to pick the extra curricular activity of my choice 💔 Like Henry, I too… was a victim to issues like : favouritism, guilt-tripping and victim-blaming… both at school as well as at home. My soul literally crushed when my mom, like my aunt [her older sister] also allowed one of my cousins (my aunt’s older daughter) to take Art & Design as an extra curricular activity in school. She was in Grade 8 at the time. Talk about : double standards. 🤦🏻♀️ Thankfully, these mandatory weekly extra curricular activities didn’t last too long and under the pressure and complaints from many parents, that their kids were unable to concentrate in class and that, these extra curricular activities were starting to become : a total waste of time… the school’s then-vice principal decided to call these extra curricular activities OFF, right after the summer vacation before the 2003-2004 school year started. Even though that part of my life’s nightmare was finally over, my mom never even bothered to apologise for her mistake. Parents who treat their kids like this, need serious help 🙏🏻 because… kids who grow up around grown-ups who never allowed them to make their own decisions, end up having a lot of difficulties with decision-making by the time they become grown-ups themselves. I can feel and relate to Henry’s pain because… I was also once in that similar situation 20+ years ago 💔 [ QUICK EDIT ] : Also… the part of the video from 3:06 where you mention, that Henry finds solitude in music : I also have that 1 particular thing in common with Henry. I find a lot of solitude in band music and I have been crazily obsessed with Gorillaz for the last 23 years !!!! Been a huge fan since I was 9 years old 🤣🤣🤣 Just like how Henry’s mom hates that Killer Boy band Henry is obsessed with (3:40), my mom also hates Gorillaz in the same manner 😬😬😬 (specifically because : I’m still in love with this fictional band’s cartoon singer, 2-D 🎤🎹🎶 to this day !!!! 😍😍😍) Lastly… at 6:12 - adorable furbaby ! Is his or her name, “Lucky” ? 🐾♥️🐈 I have two of them. Their names are Mollie & Ellie and they both are the best things to have ever, happened to me 🐾🐾♥️🐈🐈

Whenever I watch Henry being abused, the song Hurt by Nine inch nails plays in my head.

Jeremy by Pearl Jam comes to mind here. Might be superfluous, but with that treatment by his family, I wouldn't be surprised if his mental health would have been down the drain as well. Genuinely awful how this show encourages not listening to children, and forcing them into situations they don't want to be in.

@nerd2814 That is exactly what I thought when I looked back on this show. It should be called horrid parents instead. It is very similar to South Park with Butters parents.

Maybe if Henry was able to pursue his passions, he’d be a chill dude.

In “perfect Peter pop star” Henry’s mom says TV isn’t allowed to be watched for a whole week JUST BECAUSE they want Peter to practice his singing

The second picture underneath it is probably Henry’s interpretation of his house
