**VIDEO SPOILERS BELOW** Carto Review, starting with what I liked: - The story was cute and well-written. The large number of characters all had unique personalities and were likeable enough. - The main mechanic of shifting around the map pieces was interesting and had nice variation. As simple as the mechanic seemed, it managed to never get boring. - The story intertwined with the puzzles really well. None of the puzzles felt like pointless busywork, even the puzzle that was literal busywork! - The forest and iceberg sections made good use of the main mechanic, I enjoyed those puzzles the most. - The art style was fantastic, and the sound design was great as well. What I didn't like: - I prefer games with a higher puzzle-to-story ratio (at least 80/20, where this game was more 40/60). It's a personal bias, and it just means that I'm not the target audience for this game. - While the puzzles were mostly solid, none of them stood out as excellent or even great. - The inability to move map pieces while underground in the volcano section felt more like an annoyance than a challenge. The volcano section as a whole only had the story going for it. - It would have been nice to use my mouse to move around map pieces to speed up the process. Overall Rating: 6/10 (Good)

32:35 Tyler's remark that someone commented the puzzles are too hard made me realize how niche the puzzle game genre is, despite the game is clearly marketed towards a more casual audience. This unfortunately happens more times than not. It might because of the casual audience decreasing attention span in general, or because something about the native audience(this game is made in taiwan). An example I can think of on the spot is a Chinese mobile game I played a few years ago. It has unique motifs and requires very little logical jumps. At one point there's a nonogram puzzle, which once solved, becomes the solution to several puzzles moving forward. However, it seems that so many people got stumped when solving the nonogram that the devs issued an apology and gave away the answer in the app store.

Still hoping for a deepest sword video, and i think it would be fun to see if you could find a redstone challenge map for Minecraft, but if you are looking for a stand alone puzzle game have you tried human resource machine made by the same people that did world of goo. Anyway keep up the great videos

For those wondering: The pads of dogs’ feet are susceptible to cold, even in cold-acclimatized dog breeds. So dog booties are not a bad idea, it’ll keep their feet from developing frostbite and give their feet something warm while they are in the cold!

When it comes to puzzle games I try not to go by the comments on how difficult it could be because half of the time you have people who can't even figure out how to tie their shoes at 30 aren't able to figure out a number of puzzles whereas someone else might absolutely breeze through the game like it's nothing and leave mixed reviews across the board

Hey! You mentioned you were hunting for puzzle games: if you haven't tried already I highly recommend Recursed. It's a 90% puzzle game and 10% platformer, and the main gimmick is that the rooms are contained in chests, which you can move around like objects. It's got very good and focused level design, plenty of unique mechanics, and many of the puzzles even rivaled Baba Is You in terms of difficulty. Feel free to check it out!

When they said the icebergs move I expected it to be a sliding puzzle for the map section. The Tetris pieces are probably the better choice though because sliding puzzles can be very tedious. Another fun way could have had the map pieces work like Carto did on the ice where they slide until they hit something, though that might have made puzzle designs more tricky.

Fun fact: Carto stands for cartography the art and science of graphically representing a geographical area, usually on a flat surface such as a map or chart, and since the map is the main point of the game, it makes sense

I would recommend "5 step Steve" and its sequel "N step Steve". They're games with some interesting mechanics for solving puzzles. For more complexity, "Unstable" and "Unstable Engineer" are my recommendations. They're long games with a plethora of fun content. I think "Unstable" is the only game that isn't browser based though, so not sure how up your alley they would be.

Wanted to recommend the game Temple of Snek. It's a puzzle game based around the early video game Snake, but with some metriod-vania progression elements. As you solve rooms you eat enemies, and as you eat enemies you grow longer, and as you grow longer you can solve different puzzles but must also protect your larger body from traps. While I was impressed by the scope and depth of mechanics, I do feel it left me wanting a more conclusive ending, but it currently finished with a to be continued screen. Over all its great for puzzle lovers who want a challenge and can deal with some trial and error due to timing based movement and limited camera perspectives.

I was thinking you'd like a game called Seedling. It's like ElecHead in that it's a pixel art puzzle game with a good story. It has a heavy emphasis on action/adventure, so many of the puzzles come in the form of completing a few short quests. I think you'd really like it, despite how short the game is overall. (Good sound track, art, and level design, too.)
@Gabriel_August253 жыл бұрын
Recommendation: Mario maker 2. I know it's mostly know as a platformer and there's no tutorial for puzzling. But if you complete the storyline it's enough to know about a lot of mechanics in game, after that you will find yourself with all kinds of puzzles at hand, to be honest I think it really suits you. After the storyline it's straight up puzzling.

If you want some more games on your list, there's this cute deckbuilder called dicey dungeons which i like. There is a loooot of content and it can vary wildly in difficulty sometimes, but it's (except for the last chapters to add replayability) mostly preprogrammed with small pools of random choices (for example most of the time you get a choice between 2 of 3/4 abilities at the end of the first floor. It's a bit like a mix of slay the spire (deckbuilder) and LBAL (the battles are about making the randomness more controlable).
