I just wanted to say you have inspired me with this song! I played violin for 30 years until I had a stroke this past April. It paralyzed my whole right side. I would have been ok with not being able to walk again, but the loss of My "bow" arm put me in a dark place mentally. It was to the point that it hurt to see the fiddle case just sitting there so I sold all of instruments. Then I saw this video in November and I became determined to get it all back, so I bought another violin and doubled my PT efforts. I've gained 90% of my mobility in that arm and I'm not giving up anymore. I say all that to say Thank You. If our paths ever cross, I hope to jam with you some day. Much love, J.S.

I am truly grateful that you sent me this note - I am really touched to hear this song inspired you and I am SO HAPPY you are determined to play again!!! This is the best news ever and I am smiling while typing this. If I had one piece of advice, I'd just say find the technique that works for you to get the best sound. It doesn't have to be the "right" technique (according to others or tradition) and it doesn't have to be the same way you used to play. Music is more flexible than that - it's really about the sound, and however you get a sound you like can be the way you play! I'd recommend looking up Billy McLaughlin, who re-learned how to play guitar in the upright position due to a disability and my friend Adrian Anantawan, who is a disabled violinist who is missing his hand on the bow arm, but he figured out a way to play and he's a seriously amazing professional violinist. I really hope PT continues to go well! I am rooting for you on violin, and I hope to meet you in person some day so we can jam! If for some reason you ever do hit a barrier with the fiddle, just remember there are lots of instruments that can be played with one hand (though I totally get the desire to keep going with the fiddle after loving it and playing it for so long). But staying connected to music is such a big key for happiness, and I wish you many happy years of music-making!!! Take good care, and keep in touch!
