As a veteran of several 16-plus hour flights out of DXB, I hear ya when you say it feels like decades after a certain point. I am pretty much glad to disembark at my final destination. Hats off for enduring 18 hours. It is really neat that the tray table can move up and down, too. Something other carriers would do well to emulate.

I flew the second longest flight with Singapore from Newark to Singapore and it was honestly the best flight I ever experienced. From amazing Book the Cook food, flight attendants using my name throughout the flight to add a personal touch, and the attentiveness and kindness of the service, it did not feel like an 18 hour flight. I didn’t want to get off when we arrived.

I love SQ and visit these flight reviews to relive a fab experience pre Covid - LHR - SIN A380 Business class one of the most exciting flights I've ever taken - book the cook was amazing (yes, Lobster Thermidor because why not?!) - it was amazing as was every other aspect of service. Singapore Airlines - "A great way to fly" is a very true tag line!

Does the airline re-use the head phone plastic bag? That is the opinion I had when I boarded its flight to tokyo in 1998, miserly stingy. Covid-19 and does it re-use the plastic bag?

Singapore Airlines really is very special. I once flew SF -> Singapore on economy , and I had a VERY short transit to catch my SG departing flight (from Vegas). Even then, the check in crew made sure I was present in the boarding hall before they even began the boarding process! Even as I approached the front desk they already knew who I was.

I couldn’t agree more with you. They are very VERY consistent. There never are any surprises and that actually is particularly very important for a long flight like this one. I have been in their business for their LAX-SIN route and that service was lovely. But, I must say that as a frequent traveler between India and Singapore, their service on these routes is particularly fantastic and significantly different which makes sense. As always a fantastic review Kevin. Looking forward to many more!

This flight is one of the 2 remaining bucket list flights I'm planning for next 2 years or so (just did the United Island Hopper flight in October, the Alaska Milk Run is the only remaining domestic flight on the list). I love Singapore as a destination, despite the weather. I was there this past spring, and took gigs and gigs worth of pics of the city, of the airport, of the Jewel (day & night, top to bottom), of ramp movements from my runway view room at the Changi Crowne Plaza, and captured some incredible afternoon golden hour shots of arrivals hanging out at Changi Beach Park. I experienced a very short taste (45 min) of that biz product this past spring from KUL back to SIN, and I know I will not have an issue with an 18 hr flight back home to the NYC metro area. It sure beats any of the many 12+ hour days flying low & slow cross-country in helicopters back when I was a crew member in the military.

I've done Singapore to LAX, 14 hours 50 minutes. I distinctly remember the captain saying to us "Flying time today is approximately 14-50" - I then started to question how I would survive such a trip. Thankfully I chose the aisle seat, that was a saving grace. Also, the take-off was pretty special, the pilots needed to use a lot of extra power to get the plane into the sky. The aircraft used every bit of the 4km runway.

@@tfft I must admit, I picked it because (a) the A350 option wasn’t available on points and the 777 is similar/larger, and (b) the “via tokyo” option had a better departure time from LAX for us. Did I know when booking it was “via Tokyo”? ……let’s just say I now know the difference between “direct” vs “nonstop”
@dss31137 ай бұрын
Small correction: the previously used A340-500 held a maximum of 175t of fuel (which equates to the mentioned ~220tsd liters with standard density). That’s however not what the aircraft burned through for the trip. Even if you filled the tanks to the brim, you always account for at least fuel to divert to an alternate and a final reserve which under normal circumstances is not touched. Meaning, upon landing you always have some fuel left over. Just thought I’d mention that as you really seem to value accuracy in all your reviews 😅

Quick random comments comparing this flight to my experience on the EWR-SIN route this past August. Travelling in business, we got no amenity kit of any kind in either direction. Also, the food on Kevin's flight looks clearly better than the food on my flight, which was overall good for airplane food but not quite up the standard we had hoped for (even for the flight out of SIN). Wonder if a difference in the JFK and EWR routes, or perhaps just luck of the draw. Also, side note to those considering the NYC-SIN flights - the SQ website and app where you can pick meals in advance strongly indicates that there are three meals service. As Kevin indicates, there are two actual services, and you can also order off an inflight menu some other items starting sometime mid-flight. Don't do what I did as an SQ newbie, and wait patiently for the third service to arrive, as it never did. Did not have any flight attendant asking about whether they could bring anything either. At least on my flights, it turned out that you had to affirmatively reach out and place an order.
@endi4654 Жыл бұрын
Hi..You can tell how many meal services based on the menu card you receive. There's a portion whereby you can request at any point of time.
@tfft Жыл бұрын
On SQ's website when using Book the Cook for the JFK or EWR flights, the meals are titled: "Lunch/Dinner", "a la Carte", and "Refershment"... you can choose meals in advance for the first two. For the Refreshment service the default is the menu selections unless you wanted to order a specialty meal. That being said, up until 75 minutes before landing, you could have ordered anything off of the menu and they would have prepared it for you if it was available.

3:05 Okay this is actually one of the few gripes I have with SQ, they're seemingly allergic to sunlight! It's not just the lounge either, most of their business class seats are seemingly designed to cocoon you, and block the windows. You'd be lucky to have two windows to open up. Now, I'm a huge fan of their KrisWorld system, it's very easy to figure out. But sometimes the best entertainment is a good view, and the best way to get it in Business Class seems to be to fly their 737s.

Flew this route a week ago today…albeit in PE though in one of the six singles seats. It was quite bearable with the extra space but I do prefer sleeping upright so seldom take advantage of the flat bed when flying in business or first. Third time on this route/flight, the fourth was on the A380 with the FRA stop earlier this year. BTW these two returns (including onward to CGK and BKK) got me AS Gold/OW Sapphire for about $3,000 including the six short haul AS flights required.

AS's botched rollout of JX inventory was the last straw for me with them. I cashed out all of my miles and will never credit to them again. Have never seen a platform go downhill quite so quickly. That said, I too also almost never lie flat on flights (unless APEX suites) so I've been wanting to try out PE on an ULH route. My only concern with the single seats (which I would definitly fight for haha) are not having anythign to lean on lol.

If you ask a Filipino traveler that has done both PR127/126 should have been at 8:49 and SQ23/24 Manila connecting flight SQ910 2nd longest flight SQ21/22 SQ918 to MNL they would actually end up choosing the Singapore Airlines one due to it having a better service. The same ULR that does SQ23/24 21/22 does fly to the West Coast SFO SQ33/34 LAX SQ37/38. The lowest you can get for premium economy is $863 for both SQ23/21 provided you have a connecting flight to Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport. My guess is United Airlines mileageplus or Air Canada Aeroplan which actually permits access to a United Airlines Lounge domestic US Travel. Same way as how the predecessor models A340-600 and A340-500 have a very heavy takeoffs out of New York JFK/EWR towards Singapore and Hong Kong

Hey Kevin, long term viewer and subscriber here. I was wondering why you stopped putting the little colour codes on the top right of the video thumb nails recently. These give me a general idea of what is coming :)

WOW! Great video, as always! By the way, can you suggest me the tripod, that you are using for filming those takeoffs and landings? Not even holding camera in your hands (sticky tripod). Thank you!
@tfft Жыл бұрын
It is a modified GoPro suction mount with 4-5 other pieces to make it suitable for my uses. But by chance, the shots in this video were all hand held.

I take this flight a lot, sorry Kevin I am not a fan the cubby hole for your feet and the flip down seat thing…I like a power seat for up/down, especially on flights over 18 hrs! Long list of other things SQ is so far behind on Biz Class vs all other Asian/ME carriers, but SQ will never change. Love your channel ❤

I guess after that awful SQ First Class experience you had (and I do agree that product is weak). I guess I’m now thinking about your videos as “what you feel most people would feel” not what you feel…I just don’t think most people feel that a 1-foot cubby hole for your feet and sleeping on an angle for 18-20 hrs on the SIN-JFK flight is loved/preferred by 51% of the people…15% tops! 😮

Amazing price for SQ business! Wow. Normally they cost a mint especially from Australia.

I saw someone post an itinerary in a group I'm in a couple days ago. Was ADL-SYD-DFW in Premium Economy. For 2 people it was $10600AUD and they were asking if it was a decent deal. Honestly, the fares out of Aus are absolutely criminal.

Very interesting that SQ pulled back from delivering a truly “meaningful” experience with the Private Room product…. I feel like I’m missing something?

That’s how I felt too! Haha. If it wasn’t for the 2 hour resting pod and shower facilities, I would have likely just went to the SilverKris lounge… or even the KF Gold lounge.

Kinda both agree and disagree with SQ being consistent. Agree that my JFK flights last year were pretty much like how your sentiment is about them, not the best but consistent. But I was flying them to and from YVR last summer. The flight out of SIN was probably the best experience I've had with them, but the one out of YVR was just unbelievably disappointing, like I wasn't sure of what's happening because the previous flight was so excellent. Catering and the service just sucked. Probably just that odd chance but I don't know, it left some bitter taste. Thanks for sharing your experience, always love your videos 👍

What date was this travel? I traveled SQ24 SIN to JFK business class just a few days ago on the 21st Nov. I was in seat 25K. It was an amazing flight and the crew was awesome too. And I had the exact same thought but the tray table popping out accidentally because that’s where my hand naturally rests

18 hours can get endless. However, if you need to fly that route, what's the alternative? Sleepover in a cheap motel next to LAX, then maybe a red-eye flight to JFK? I believe this flight is the better option. It would be interesitng to know though, how you survive such a flight on the premium economy. Specifically since the seats will not turn into real beds and you have to ignore snoring neighbors. Even 12 hours can become difficult under these conditions.
@tfft Жыл бұрын
When flying connecting itineraries, I always choose the shorter flight first, if possible. So alternatives from SIN would be flying another carrier and connecting via E Asia. As for Prem Eco, I'm surely not saying it's a good ol' time, but I think it depends on the person. It is a very very rare flight where I'll actually sleep in the lie flat position in Business Class (APEX Suites and SQ are the only real exceptions)- so for me, a decent recline and enough width to cross my legs would get me through it. Thanks for watching 🩴

I am commenting to you FROM seat 12K on SQ23, the return flight from JFK to SIN. Agree with almost everything you say - my only real annoyance is the screen being remote controlled and not touch screen.
@tfft Жыл бұрын
Ah fair enough. I always forget about then when I'm flying bulkhead since the screen is too far away. Enjoy your trip 🗺️
@johniii8147 Жыл бұрын
I'm the opposite. If the screen is that close in Business or First it's a not enough pitch. While SQ's seats are wide, I find the seats are a bit too close togeather in pitch for a premium product, esp. on really long haul flights.

I took this SQ23 & SQ24 in Nov 2023 & Dec 2023 last year on my trip to SE Asia in business class. I didn't really feel their service deserved the #1 airline ranking from Skytrax. On SQ 23, there was no greeting me by my name, no offer to hang my jacket, no checking in to see how my meal was, no introduction from the FA by their name, sleeping sideways is horrible (I am only 5'7 and my feet can touch the wall when I am sleeping). On my flight back, SQ24 had a 4+ hrs delay which resulted me in missing my connecting flight in NY and having to book an airport hotel as a result, there was no compensation from SQ besides a $15 Changi airport gift card. This was my first and last time flying with this airline. Emirates is much better and still my favourite. I have yet to try Qatar Airways

Everyone is different I suppose- I would never be able to sleep properly in the 2 Emirates seats I was recently in. Thanks for watching 🩴
@brianl301810 ай бұрын
@@tfft Are you referring to the new Emirates business class with the 2-3-2 configuration? (I can't seem to find a video review on your channel). I have only flown on Emirates A380 business and first class (very happy with both). I normally can't sleep on a plane either way but not having enough space to lie down makes it really uncomfortable. Agreed, everyone's experience can be different. I saw a Sam Chui video right before my trip last year where he was very negative about Thai Airways. I kind of regret booking with them afterwards but my actual flights (2 in fact) with them went smoothly. By the way, I always enjoying watching your videos (very honest opinion). I only do one big trip a year so watching your videos kind of brings me back to vacation mode and allows me to plan my next vacation accordingly (and set expectations with the airlines I book with).

I know the "15 hour" feeling all too well, although I usually get it at around 8 hours on a 11 hour flight. Business class sure will help. Thanks for the video.

Mine kicks in typically around 11-12, even in F. I just want off so now I book flights with stop over that are truly ULH destinations. I enjoy the break, walking, getting a shower etc

I'll say my longest F segment was a bit over 13 hours and I would have happily added another 7 lol.
