It is the forty-first millennium. The oldest Astartes chapters in the Imperium- M80 and Fnatic- have been at war since before the Emperor first sat on the throne. No one questions their loyalties, as none know to whom they are loyal. They play a simulation they call "CS41", a program the greatest technoachaeologists of our time can scarcely comprehend. We know only that they are engaged in an eternal ritual they refer to as "overtime" in a realm whose name has become synonymous with both "hell" and "purgatory" in the modern tongue. There are also two numbers. Their quantity is so large that no ship, no forgeworld could store them in their entirety. We know not their purpose, only that they are represent some impossible number of "points". We maintain record of these numbers through a network of thousands of interconnected planets, though we know not what they mean, or how they became so large.

Our team were nominal favorites (we finished the regular season 2nd in conference, they were 7th) but got absolutely demolished in the first game, and if we lost this one as well the outlook for the away games would be pretty grim. And the first two periods had this trend continue, cue the 0-2 score. The fact the refs made some controversial calls in their favor didn't help. But in the third period we equalized the game, and in OT it were us who were looking better. In the first two periods Torpedo looked way more fresh than SKA, in OT it was the other way around, as if they were saving up energy for that moment. Interesting point with the downtime bit - it is true that conventional games have substitutions, and that CS has only 15 seconds of down time between rounds. But it is important to mention that players have downtime when they die. Where as in football for example, players are usually always on the move. Not arguing for or against either side, just making that highlighted that it's not just play 15 seconds play 15 seconds play 15 seconds. I'd be curious what player had the highest accumulated downtime of the whole match.
