From mid-March 1942, the three divisions of the Imperial Japanese Army gradually drove the British, Indian, and Chinese troops back north until May 1942, when the battered Allied troops pulled back to India and China. From the beginning of the Japanese invasion of Burma in December 1942, the British forces conducted an arduous fighting retreat until they reached India in May 1942 - a lengthy retreat that covered The thousand-mile from Burma all the way back to India was the longest ever in the history of the British Army.

So wild to me just 4 divisions trying to conquer and entire region like that. I guess it was a lot less populated back then, but that means less infrastructure. It's criminal this channel hasn't exploded yet. Probably the AI narration holding it back, but I enjoy it. Such fantastic quality content.

The Japanese plan wasn't to take all of Burma. That only became the plan as a side effect of trying to surround and destroy the British.

I have read and seen lots of documentaries, but I didn´t know about the war in Burma. Thanks for the clear explanations. How difficult must have been fighting in such terrible conditions in jungles.

I plan to move on with the campaign in Burma. It would probably not be part 5 of this topic, but something new.

The Allies fought bravely but they were up against an enemy who was determined, an experienced fighter, and knew nothing of defeat. The Japanese were experts in jungle warfare. They could live of muddy water and maggoty rice for weeks. The Japanese soldier may fight hard, and so the Allies will have to fight harder to defeat the Japanese. Godspeed to those who perished in the Burmese Campaign. 🇲🇲

Well said indeed. The Japanese soldier was indoctrinated in such a violent intense way and that indoctrination transferred itself to the battlefield in every way. In terms of brutality, war crimes committed and the Rape of Nanking they were the equals of the Nazis in those terms. The only difference is Germany made reparations and formal apologies after the war with the Japanese have maintained radio silence since their surrender. In fact they have revised their history books and there is never a mention of Pearl Harbor or any of the atrocities committed by the average Japanese soldier. We're not talking about SS troops here. We're talking about the regular army. So I guess I have a bitter taste in my mouth because of the way the Japanese have conducted themselves post-war. My father was in the US Navy, South Pacific stationed aboard the Montpelier which was a Heavy Cruiser. If you look it up you'll see that they were in the thick of it from the very start. You name a major battle such as Saipan, Guam, Leyte Gulf, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. My father was there aboard the Montpelier. My mom always said that my dad brought the war home with him. And now we know that it was PTSD which was unheard of back then other than battle fatigue. I wish you could have gotten the help that he needed. Life would have been much different for our family and for me in particular. I love and miss my parents. Both were veterans of World War II.🙏⚓️💞🇺🇸

I assume the narration voice is AI generated? No British person pronounces Blenheim 'Blen-hime' it's 'Blen-em'

They never realised the British Empire at the time was bigger than Russia, probably the most technically advanced nation in the world, outnumbrred 20x the population of Japan. It would have taken time - but they fought a war for 100 years in the previous centuries- so once Germany was a cindered ruin they would have turned on Japan with a terrible vengeance and probably starved the population as they had done with other upstart societies. US production might just brought the victory 97 years early. The Brits seemed finished now though.

Great video lots of good info but I do have one issue how can you have so much info and at the very end drop a bomb about casualties and state the numbers with the addition tat Japans listed casualties number was "without a doubt" much higher . Yet provide nothing to support such a claim? You can tell me how many stuarts were koed on april 6 in a small valley in Rangoon but you cant provide any info as to why Japans figures were "without a doubt" wrong... Seems pretty odd. Makes me question the other parts

Thank you for your comment. In response to your remark - the Japanese casualties records, for such an intense battle and a long campaign were unrealistically low, especially for the attacking side. It is not unusual that in some cases, after-battle casualties records show numbers that are, to put it mildly, questionable.

@@FromtheBattlefields I appreciate your response. While I can understand the belief and that it is usually the case with "attackers" what factual proof is there? The records for the battle are there and what would Japan have to gain from with holding the figures to this day? I find it odd this argument is made when it is Japanese ...is there any question about the US Marines taking islands where they report 1300 casualties but the Japanese 5000 like Tarawa or Siapan or Iwo where its far more lopsided? in every battle the US Marines fought in the figures were lopsided in favor of the attackers. Just seems odd it cant be taken at face value here. Again really great video I enjoyed it this just was an odd part for me.

the japanese army had so fast progress toward India, that Japan had a plan to meet Germany in Tehran or even Baku, and Hitler ordered blockage of the fast progress by Japanese against Anglo-Saxxons
