Great story telling! You had me feeling like you were defeated and surprised me with the win- but at the same time, your reaction felt like a classic Alviso NorCal win where you always pull through and get the W. Great video!
@NorCalCyclingАй бұрын
Thank you!
@xandershawvlogАй бұрын
A lot of Zwift races are more about attrition and holding on rather than breakaways (although they do happen on occasion). The draft works from way further back than you think. Love seeing this as well as your Crit videos.
@fredsirvalo1904Ай бұрын
I concur. I experiment with drafting in the robopaced groups. I start getting pulled by a draft somewhere between 5 and 10 metres behind a group in front. If I am already drafting, I don't notice any difference between 0 and 3 metres.
@xandershawvlogАй бұрын
@ yeah, if you get too close you loose sometimes. Where the avatar is on your screen is not necessarily where it actually is. Sweetspot seems to be around 3-5 meters. I should really use sauce.
@skylerschwendeman18 күн бұрын
Yeah, unlike in real races when there’s a break in a Zwift race it almost always consists of the strongest riders (so I guess it’s more of a selection than a breakaway). Unless it’s just 1-2 riders they’re rarely brought back.
@appetit2619Ай бұрын
Didn't know watching Zwift race could be this exciting. Keep going Jeff, congrats on the W!!!

ohhh great idea
@fredsirvalo1904Ай бұрын
Congrats on the win. Lagging from the back of a group and drafting through the sprint is definitely the way to do it on Zwift. Even better when you have a drafting boost to spend. I use this strategy and often "win" the bunch sprints for 47th place in the D group. It's the small victories. 🚴💨
@SCggoodeАй бұрын
What a sprint! I appreciate the racing tips and tricks. I'll try use these ideas in my next zwift race!

@dylanliu6758Ай бұрын
The reason the peloton caught the solo rider at the climb was because the peloton was doing 33km/h on 5-6% grade so drafting matters a lot. Solo rider simply cannot match that crazy speed. This happens a lot on these short punchy 4-5% climbs in Zwift. One classic example is volcano KOM, where it’s common for sprinters (higher absolute watt) to beat climbers (higher w/kg) for the win.

Great insights into how you're thinking. The upcoming profile, knowing in detail what power all the riders around you are doing and having real time gaps means there's no excuse for getting out of position, aside from lack of talent, which is something I experience a lot ;-)

@phoenixtwelve1972Ай бұрын
Great race mate. Perfect timing... you just had that little burst extra to get half a wheel on the line. Thats a hard thing to get with such a long race - so a top shelf win and you should rightly be pumped on it. There were two hill sections where you could have sagged a little bit more early on (when the gruppetto was still basically together), and I agree that not using the featherweight power-up on that last climb also cost you a little bit, but the reality is you were on the front and watts and HR were ok. Excellent work mate 🙂

Maybe you should do a Chase / handicap race where higher score racers start later, so we could all join you in the race.
@bpfastfeet25Ай бұрын
Chase packs IRL have to modulate speed within the bunch. So everyone holds consistent power to whatever degree (motivated or not). I think that's why breakaway efforts are that much more doomed in zwift. The physics and math is probably accurate, but there's just so many more watts back in the pack since you can't crash.
