thanks for publicising this loop and putting in the link for route notes, Kev so folks don't have to do your horrendous bush bash. I did that too 4 times before Frank and I took over Alan Jemison's route he'd established and turned it into a track. The marking and track get better all the time with our ongoing mahi. So good that DoC have been credited with putting in the white poles that Frank and I actually inserted along the way!

Thanks, James. The descent is definitely doable. Just aim for the northern most tarn (the one on the right), not gor right between them like I did.

Thanks Francis. Pack weight varies from about 11kg to 16kg. It depends a bit on how much water I'm carrying and if I've got a tent etc. Lots of people travel lighter, but I'm in the betterr safe than sorry group, so I always have a bit of extra gear.
