Fun Fact: Viggo Mortensen actually broke his toe when filming the scene where he kicks a helmet. This led to his toes and foot being black and blue all over. Viggo was also heard saying around the set that Peter Jackson was "harvesting my raw talent" to make the movie. This led to the working title actually being "Blue Harvest". Which was also the original working title for 1977's Star Wars.

i watched this in the theater and the guy next to me died of a brain hematoma during the movie and he was just sat there next to me the whole time. He didn’t give any reaction to it he just died and sat there. we were leaving and some of the people in the row with him realized he wasn’t alive anymore.

Tolkien did a big flashing-red boss weak-point with both Smaug and Last Alliance-era Sauron. A lot of his best stories boiled down to exploiting an Achille's heel of the demigod/mortal champion type-situation. Imagine having to live with being a huge video game nerd before video games were invented.

I always griped with Phillipa Boyens’s claim that she just sat down one day and dashed out the intro, rather than that she lifted it beat for beat, and in parts word for word, from Ralph Bakshi’s animated LotR intro scene.
