The "land of the dead" mechanic, (including going there first after getting bonked and switching back through corpses) reminds me mainly of Soul Reaver. I'm not a big soulslike-fan, but I wouldn't mind playing a Soul Reaver / Legacy of Kain in that gameplay genre.

I recommend placing a disclaimer somewhere correcting the statements you made about the game having denuvo anticheat. The devs have said on Twitter "We are pleased to confirm that Lords of the Fallen does not, and will never feature Denuvo." A lot of people boycott games nowadays simply for having denuvo, I think this can really harm the game's sales and is worth a correction.

I dont even watch any other reviewers anymore. I'm mostly interested in gameplay. I dont really care about opinions, except performance or just something that straight up doesnt work in the game or something. Gameranx is the only one that gives an opinion, but it never sounds fanboyish or haterish. no matter if the game was amazing or sucked, the tone is always sort of neutral, which i love.

I'm running this on the PC and its purrrringggg along. I had to disable VSYNC limit and no stutter nothing, was stuttering at the very start, turned off VSYNC limit and this has to be one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a long time.

Surge 2 is honestly one of my all time favorite games. I'm usually terrible at certain souls-like's, but I absolutely was determined to stick with Surge 2, and it didn't end up feeling that difficult to me. Same with Remnant II. That game is pretty good too.

Lol, I am playing Surge 2 right now. After I finally got into Souls games, I started playing all the most popular Souls-likes. After I started Surge 2, I decided to stop and play #1 first then go back to 2. Right now I am stuck at the Metal Armor boss.

In case anyone missed it there was an editors on screen at the end that said it looks like they patched the stuttering. I love the style of this game I’m definitely trying it out. *UPDATE IT IS DEFINITELY NOT FIXED LMAO* well at least for a lot of people. I was able to play 2 hours without a single stutter outside of a couple during a cinematic and i love the game so far. but most people im seeing on steam are having bad stuttering and crashing.

Like shit on Xbox series X ran in quality mode and it’s unplayable and returned it last night. I’m not dropping 80 dollars on a experiment hopefully they fix the game cause on console it’s fucked unless tho play on lowest setting performance mode next gen gaming just will never be a thing cause companies are to greedy to build strong consoles that run games right or even optimize them to begin with.

Here's a non-biased review. I downloaded it for free. Beat it. Didn't think it was bad. But I did NOT enjoy it. There are a 100 games I would play before this game (Lies of P included) If you have played every good souls-like already, then this is worth considering. The boss fights are too easy, have badly matched doge windows (sometimes dodge long before the attack, sometimes after it has "landed"), mob density. There's also a lot of fixable stuff like bugs and shit which are pretty bad currently. I didn't even pay for it and I still felt like I didn't get my moneys worth. Which says a lot. Don't pay 60 dollars for this. It's worth 30 at most after the bugs are fixed

Just something I wanted to add for PC players regarding performance issues: I watched/read some tests from other reviewers (most notably my go-to source: Gamestar, Germany's biggest PC gaming magazine), and they did mention that the PC version runs pretty well. They did occasionally get some stuttering after longer play sessions, but said that quickly restarting the game helps with that. Also, something I wanted to point out, apparently, the developers have already released 4 patches during the pre-release phase alone to quickly fix the performance issues. That being said, I highly doubt that the performance issues will last very long (if you experience any), considering how rapidly they started to bring out patches to keep the player base happy. It's actually really nice to see, especially considering that it seemingly is becoming the norm in today's gaming industry to release a half-baked game with a wobbly launch.

I think sometimes publishers and studios feel like they can’t afford to wait any longer. They don’t make a cent until the game is released and games are ridiculously expensive to make.

@@kevnb3 that's on them for the most part though. these studios haemorrhage money, on marketing campaigns, celebrities being included in them and this kind of thing. Most of the things that push the costs up, are things that none of us even care about. They make these bloated games because it's a d1ck measuring contest or something "animated peach fuzz" "horse b@lls" etc... yet indie games can do incredibly well with what is essentially 30 year old graphics. releasing unfinished games is why next to no one pre orders games on PC any more (at least AAA, ones) as you have to pretty much expect the game to be sh1t at ;launch these days. Very rare you get a game that just works on PC these days (other than games that were developed on PC first)

If it's an over time issue with longer sessions causing stutters it's probably something stupid like a shader issue or Memory leak issue but good to hear they are listening and addressing it sooner rather than later.

Good video, i've been seeing a lot of reviews on the game and i've seen a lot of people just put it down to "Game bad because performance issues", so I really appreciate the mentioning of the pros and the cons so I know whether or not the game is worth getting without the performance issues as performance issues aren't what's going to stop me from playing a game long term and I don't like when something like performance is the only thing that holds back a good game.

Frankly, I'm more concerned with the lack of enemy variety than I am the performance issues. Performance issues can and will be patched but I highly doubt any enemies will be added in an update. Enemy variety is an important element for these kinds of games for a lot of reasons. It helps give areas unique identities and it gives the player a break from the monotony of fighting the same foes. Hopefully it doesn't end up impacting the game in a major way. Dark Souls 1 had 67 or so enemies and this game reportedly has around 40. Doesn't seem so bad until you consider that this game's map is around 3 times as large.

IDK if anyone here has played "The-Medium" but I genuinely enjoyed that game for what It was and thought walking between the world of the living and the world of the dead was a cool concept that was greatly executed there. Seeing it here in Lords Of the Fallen, I was genuinely impressed because I've been saying for a while, I wish more games would follow that concept and build upon it. CI did a great job with this feature and made it even more interesting in my opinion than any other game I played before because of how interactive it is. Also, I'm bias to my souls-like. I'm not crazy far into the game, I'm about an hour or 2 in and so far, this review is pretty accurate as always with gameranx. I will say difficulty can be cranked a little for the tutorial bosses, IDK what later bosses hold but thats my take. Great video, love you guys. Enjoy lords of the fallen people. PS: Use your gameranx magic to convince CI to allow cross-play between xbox and PC (this is a musttttttttt) jk

right out the gate it's a MAJOR improvement I don't remember much about the first one, but what I do remember is the combat feeling *very* unnatural&slow/clunky, it just didn't have a good flow to it like Lies of P, NIOH, Bloodborne, Sekiro, etc. &that's the one thing that can make or break an action-RPG for me, especially if it's meant to be a _"Souls-like"_ in any regard I also don't remember there being any memorable bosses, or a good selection of weapons or armor, which it looks like this one has improved upon

Im going with a strength/inferno build for my first run. Not sure what all inferno spells there are, but it sounds WAY TOO COOL to pass up lol. Also ive made my dude look like the main guy in Blasphemous, and thats something i never thought id be able to do in a souls game. Also goes great with the build!

When Elden Ring actually gave us a jump button, I was relieved. It made exploring and platforming more viable than Dark Souls. The Dark Souls "sprint-to-jump" was just finicky and janky to put it mildly.

I was pleasantly impressed with how well the game plays especially when it gives you a choice to choose how hard the game gets with certain classes I’m running the assassin class and it has a challenge difficulty but it’s smooth enough that it feels right

Let me say that I do like souls-game jump mechanics forced to be used for dashing and also low verticality. Beside the fact that you are wearing heavy armors and keeping tons of weapons and items in your inventory, I think that limiting jumping makes it easier to create a map where you know they can't go out of bounds easily by default (instead of adding everywhere invisible walls)

When I first played Dark Souls, I always thought the jumping mechanic was a bit weird. Especially coming from more hack and slash and zelda games prior, jumping has always been a normal thing in games. Though, I'm guessing they removed a specific jump button in Dark Souls to be able to have another button to do something available on the controllers at the time. So I'm going to assume it was to fit functionality within the limitations of controllers, and then it just took off as a trend maybe?

For your comments on the jump mechanic, I understand why Lies of P and Lords used the classic way of jumping, in Elden Ring everything is fully open and in Legacy Dungeons there are usually high walls and such to prevent exploitation, whereas in the other games having a dedicated and controllable jump button makes them have to put in a lot more effort to adding barriers, closing sections and such.

I started playing the first one a couple of weeks ago, and I really enjoyed it. If this is better than I'm all in. I appreciate the note when falcon was talking about the state of the game, if they fixed it, I won't refund the game on steam. User-reviews were used to matter, but we have passed this point a long time ago. User reviews of a game these days in 8 of 10 cases "review" anything except the game itself.

This video has been up for over 12 hours now and is surely causing damage to the game's expected sales. Falcon didn't do the bare minimum research and lied out of his ass, and hasn't even so much as pinned a comment that says 'my bad it doesn't have Denuvo'. 8 million subscribers is a lot of potential damage/negative exposure. He can't even be bothered to give a shit and fix his mistake, if I were the development studio I'd be calling for his termination.

Game Infomer wasn't really hot on this game but when they talked about it in The Game Informer Show podcast they mentioned this lantern thing and the land of the dead so I had to check it out how it actually looks, that's why I'm here. And I gotta say, I really like what I see! Maybe it's different when you play it but the game looks great, it has everything you want from a Soulslike and a bit more. This land of the dead is a great-great idea!

What is the parry system like? I never dodge unless it's the only option so for me this all comes down to how good the deflection/parry system is. Also, can you parry with daggers and is there some sort of special abilites related to parrying?

Same like other games. Block as the hit lands and you parry (but won’t stagger) and take reduced Wither damage (doesn’t 100% reduce damage - though I believe shields will reduce the chip damage). Parry them enough, they stagger. Then you can fatal strike. Timing is pretty forgiving. Nothing like lies of P; leans toward sekiro’s parry window.

I see what you were talking about with the optimization of the game but I disabled some things and tweaked it and it stopped stuttering and performs was increased by pretty much 200%. Just tweak the settings and you should be good.

10 hours in and I like it so far. Great style, characters look awesome, cool game mechanics. Started with the dark crusader class and the two handed sword feels great. My pc isn't the most high end, but even on medium graphics it looks amazing. Only downside I've encountered is magic snipers being able to hit you from absurd distances lol.

I dont mind the dash and jump IF the jump button is different than the dash. Sort of how dark souls 2 and 3 are. You hold dash and press L3. When jump is tied to hitting dash a second time thats when the jumping sucks.

This game and Dead Island 2 have to be the champions for comeback of the year at this point. Both sequels made it out of development hell and not only didn't suck, but we're actually good, quality releases worthy of coming out in this gen (well, this one seems to be on track to be that) Also, i noticed that cutaway when Falcon died 😂

I have been having a blast with this game. Playing on console (PS5) and stutter was only an issue on quality mode. Changing to performance made a huge difference. Even looked much better in terms of detail, was odd but works well. The multiplayer really is seamless and so simple to do! Just beckon a friend while visiting a shrine and hit the road. Me and my brother have been playing through the story together and it's tons of fun with a friend. I also play solo but the way they do multiplayer just hits different for a souls like game. It's a very welcome change. I find the characters to be more interesting than I originally expected. I found myself very interested in Pietas backstory in particular. I think this is a great way to bounce back for the series. I would definitely consider playing a sequel. They need to iron out some things but if they lean into the strengths of this game and further expand the lore, I can see myself playing for quite some time.

I've played the games. I think the combat needs work. The lock on system is a problem, and free combat needs some tweaking too. There a glitch that happens when you die, and you won't be able to see yourself due to the camera angle. So you'll get trapped in a bad angle then die if you're fighting an enemy

Yeah actually on Xbox they released an update two days in a row. At first it was buggy and the coop visuals would drop, but they fixed the problems within two days of release. Which I much appreciated.
