Charger fan here. There is something uniquely problematic that you can’t pinpoint with stats, or the team’s record, or who is on the roster on paper that has seemed to always come and bite the Chargers year after year after year. Their masterful ability to get you on the edge of your seat, hang around and play anybody to the end of the game no matter how talented the other team is, and then invent a new way to blow the game that you never thought was possible and only the Chargers could come up with. Up until Herbert got hurt and the season was over with 4-5 weeks to go the Chargers were down to the wire in every single one of those games and couldn’t find a way to close out the game and blew it every time. Year after year it doesn’t matter how talented the team is on paper or who is playing on it they always seem to find ways to blow games and the season. On top of it, somehow they always seem to have the worst injury luck possible every single year to the point you have to wonder if it is actually an unlucky coincidence or if there is something within the training room and organization that is causing it. That’s why you can’t say things like ‘Justin Herbert hasn’t been winning them games so he must not be good’, or ‘the Chargers WR room is too bare so they’re going to be having a losing season’. It didn’t matter who was the QB or how talented the roster was it didn’t keep the Chargers from blowing the games and being a cursed franchise. You would need to sit there and watch the games and see the manner in which they accomplish this to be able to understand it truly; if you don’t want to put yourself through that waste of time of watch the Chargers game every week I wouldn’t blame you. Hopefully with Harbaugh at the helm that they can genuinely be a force and a team to be proud of and worth putting up with all of the nonsense, pathetic fumbling and bumbling of games and football seasons for over the years. I had had it up to here with them after last year’s disaster, and I know they always get my hopes up and then they come crashing down every time, but I have the best feeling I have ever had with this team

I see them having a similar year to Dan Campbell’s first year with the Lions. They win about 8 or 9 games, have a lot of last second losses and then carry that momentum into the next year. It might be enough to beat the Chiefs for the division, but they won’t be walkovers.

I think a part of the situation people ignore when they ridicule how much worse our team is this season (on paper) is that our on paper team never hit the field in the last couple of years. Herbert played with a broken finger, couldn't even hand the ball off properly for a month. Then missed every one of our losing streak down the stretch Corey Linsley was a non starter, as was williams, as was Bosa and Eckler was missing for large chunks of the season. I honestly think that while the on paper team is worse, the team that runs out onto the grass week in week out will be better. 7-9 wins, establish the new brand of football, cut off the dead cap, and freshen up next season in free agency.

49ers fan here. The thing avkut Jim Harbaugh is that he does not need top reciever talent. If you go back and look at his coaching history, when he took over the 49ers before the 2011 season, the best reciever he had was Michael Crabtree. And no one thinks that he was a great reciever. He was solid, but he wasn't great. And they almost made the Super Bowl. In 2012, the 49ers signed a washed Randy Moss. And they almost won the Super Bowl. In 2013, they had both Crabtree and Anquan Boldin. Which is the second best WR duo they had under the Jim Harbaugh. In 2014, they had Crabree, Boldin, and Stevie Johnson. Which was the best receiving core they had under Jim Harbaugh. They only went 8-8 and missed the playoffs, and Jim was fired. Even as bad as the Chargers were last year, they lost 7 of their 12 games by one score or less. So, how many more wins will Harbaugh contribute to? Because Staley was without a doubt a complete liability at HC, and in my opinion, he made his players worse than they actually are. I think the Chargers very well could have 9-10 wins. I dont think they will be in the AFC championship or anything like that. But when some people think that they will only have 5-7 wins, you are straight up out of your mind.

The chargers defense was one the worst pass defense i've ever seen & had to suffer as a chargers fan last year. It improved when they got rid of Staley but it was a truly horrible experience before that. Don't know how many 3rd & longs they gave up with lack of discipline & soft coverages. There was a stat that against good teams & offenses Staley's defense was the worst in the league but against bad offenses he had a top 8 defense last year. Playing Zach Wilson, Bagent & AoC helped too, pass rush was able to effect bad QB's. Should play more sound football both sides of the ball which will be an improvement this season. Getting to 9 wins would be an achievement for this team. Let the JH³ era begin ⚡️

The best outcome is a low wildcard berth, and getting destroyed by the 2 or 3 seed. They lost too many of their best players in the offseason. I do think Jim Harbaugh will take the air out of the ball, and not force Herbert to play hero ball in order to win games. I think they are a worse team with a better coach. I like their defense too, but the Chiefs are causing the other AFC West teams, to have some PTSD. Only 2 wins against Mahomes over the 6 seasons is rough, and the Chargers last win was early in the 2021 season. Mahomes is 30-5 against the division, and two of those were during a spotty stretch in the middle of last season.

I've of 2 minds on the Chargers. On the one hand, the Chargers had one of, if not the worst head coaches in the NFL last year and to go from Brandon Staley to Jim Harbaugh there has to be some net positive wins from that change alone. Staley was that bad and Harbaugh is that good. On the other hand, this team bleed talent as the competitive core that was flat out wasted under Staley got old and expensive and the Chargers wisely are cleaning house and retooling rather than make an attempt at making it work with Harbaugh. Defensive overachievment is very possible and honestly expected just based on the coaching change alone, let alone the fact that there's some legit building blocks. That offense however. Long term it'll be fine as Harbaugh is wisely focusing on that line first and foremost and Herbert is a franchise QB. The skill positions however is straight up nothing but spare parts, draft busts, and rookies. Again overachievement is possible, but less certain with that bunch. In the end, I do believe in Harbaugh and what he's doing enough that the Chargers in 2024 are going to be competitve with flashes, but ultimately inconsistant as this is still a roster in the process of massive retooling. A 7-9 win season sounds about right

I like your videos, but I’m a Chargers fan and I drank the Kool Aid. I think you and most of the media folk are taking a very conservative view on the Chargers this year as to not look foolish if they don’t have a great year. I have nothing to lose, so I’m always going to be unapologetically optimistic. I simply wouldn’t count the Chargers out of being a playoff team because of Coach Harbaugh and his hand picked staff. Great coaches elevate their teams, and it’s apparent with KC Chiefs of last year who often didn’t look like a great overall team, and won by running the ball and defense. I’m not saying the Chargers are going to be that team, but you get the point. It doesn’t matter if your team is full of reclamation projects, some of who may have been dealt bad cards, what matters is that everyone buys in, and you select players that fit your system and coach them up to succeed in their role. I don’t think the Chargers will be prolific in any area (except possibly Greg Roman’s run game), but I think The offense, defense and special teams will all be top 15 units, and that’s good enough to make the playoffs with a Coaches like Harbaugh, Roman, Minter, Ficken, with Hebert at the helm of offense, and Derwin James at the helm of defense. If the first year isn’t a huge success, than oh well, what can you really expect with this roster. I’m just optimistic they will exceed expectations of the general public and pick up where they left off in 2022.

I don't understand why the bills got a better package for Stephon Diggs than the Chargers got for Keenan Allen. Allen had 1,243 yards in 13 games while Diggs had 1,183 yards in 17 games. I get the bears had the leverage with Allen but it should at least have be a similar deal. Edit: Also this was Allen's 2nd best statistical year based off just yards.
@BurntPenguin8371

Diggs is younger, has a better track record in terms of staying healthy, and overall career wise has been more dominant. He’s an outside X receiver, which is more valuable that Keenan, who plays in the slot. I don’t know the specifics of their contract situations, but I’m sure that also played a factor. I don’t think it should be a shock that Diggs was more valuable in the trade market than Keenan

It’s not going to immediately show up on paper even though his counting stats are crazy. You begin to notice despite how Herbert can pull off several miracles in a game, they still end up losing because a RB misses a crucial block on 3rd and 2 and Herbert gets lit up. Or he leads what would be a game winning drive and the defense goes and lets the opposing offense score in 3 plays and he’s left with 30 seconds on the clock and has to go the entire length of the field. That’s not to say he doesn’t deserve criticism because he isn’t perfect but imagine a fast car can have an excellent engine but if the transmission, suspension, chassis, etc are all shit, the car, as a whole, is gonna be trash despite how good the engine is. He’s a exceptionally well built engine stuffed in a 2003 Kia Rio

I have been listening to most of your videos since the beginning of the last season, and obviously I enjoy them. But there is one thing that's bugging me about your presentation, and I have to finally get it off my chest. I don't understand why you keep referring to NFL players by their first names. To begin with, at times it leads to confusion - especially if you are tuning in mid-video or your attention span is wandering due to multi-tasking or due to more sleepy stretches of content. But perhaps more important, it indicates a lack of professionalism at best and at worst a pose of phony familiarity. You are not the players' relatives or friends. They do not know your existence in most cases. Why the pose? I don't know; perhaps I am old-fashioned, but, again, I had to get it off my chest.

Chargers be chargerin--always'. Maybe Harbaugh can change that but he's only going to be coaching the team, not owning it. At least the Chargers don't disappoint their fans, because there are no Chargers fans.

Herbert is Lamar without the career accolades. Both are overated and get so many excuses. I argue Herbert is even worse in that line of logic. Dude rarely makes the playoffs, always has an injury issue, and has a pedestrain career record even when he plays. Yet analysts and fans always glaze this mans schmeat. They put so much eggs in his basket this year and i believe it is gonna be rough. Even if i believe they have the right coach currently.

Play-calling is the least understood aspect of the game. Andy Reid stood quietly on the sidelines, observed opposing defenses & schemed 3 TDs in the last 2 S-Bs without which Mahomes loses both games. 2 were game-winners. While the majority of their supporters _are_ making excuses, that's because they too don't have a clue what play-calling is or what effects it has on games. So here are _some_ clues for anyone who reads this. 1) Kellen Moore's play-calling kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3rNmKx8fcmJjNU. 2) Greg Roman's, kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJjJc5Jqecyhe7M. I think that that plus Alex Rollins' amazing summary kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpyxoY2upp1jhJY should suffice, but there are more videos on how terrible he is. If you all think the QB can act independently of play-callers then explain how/why QBs' seasons fluctuate so much. After all, you all seem to ignore the effects of roster especially receivers when you say everyone 'makes excuses.' Brady averaged less than 25 TDs a season before Moss, threw 50 with him, 23 to Moss alone. It's an excuse to overlook that? Greg Roman reduced Lamar from 36 TDs to only 6 INTs to 16 (less than half) & 13 (more than double) by sending receivers on routes the QB couldn't see them on that started in double coverage & ended in quadruple. He _was still_ the best QB those 3 years, just by virtue of having more TD than 5 & fewer INTs than 25. He had no #1 or #2 WR _and_ those plays.

The breaks given to Herbert are just folks liking the guy and pushing a narrative about him. Elite qbs elevate the players around them, right? He has a great coach now. We're told that in life not everything has to be perfect to make it special. Show special when it matters Herbert.

I mean you did see how bad the Chargers were fielding Easton stick for 5 games, right? Granted the team had given up by that point on Staley and did not want to play hard for him. I think there's a difference between letting your team down after the team played well vs. being the entire reason your team is in the game at all. In my opinion I don't think we should pretend like Herbert had the defense, the coach, the running game, the weapons, and he just let the team down after the team carried him there. The fact of the matter is he is the one carrying the team in almost every situation and that's just not sustainable for any quarterback. Of course he has his bad games and isn't perfect, but every QB does too. Even Tom Brady, the GOAT, needed a great coach and defense to reach the success they've had. Wins are a team stat after all.

I mean he does all he can n the stats/tape prove it. Having the worst defense for the last 4 yrs doesn’t help. In 2022, chargers were the most injured team and he had Deandre Carter as his WR1 and he played well. That injured team made it to the playoffs cuz of Herbert playing with broken ribs. In 2021, a healthy team led by Herbert led to 5k yards/40 TDs and missed the playoffs cuz of shit defense. This last season, an injury plagued/stupidly coached team saw what happens when Herbert himself deals with extra injury. I cant see why people say Herbert is to blame for everything lol. Put anyone else not named Mahomes and they aren’t winning more than 4 games with the chargers these last 5 seasons
