Welcome to our first-time watching The Lost Boys (1987). This movie is not what we expected in the best way possible! This '80s vampire flick caught us off guard.
"The Lost Boys" tells the story of two brothers who just moved to the new costal town of Santa Carla. But little by little they start to unravel the blood-sucking truth. This town is also the home to a group of young, leather jacket wearing vampires. This movie had such a unique blend of genres. It had horror, comedy, and a lot of '80s atmosphere and nostalgia. While offering some unique lore and new twists on the classic vampire.
The performances were fantastic too! Sam Emerson played by Corey Haim killed it with his charisma and Michael Emerson (Jason Patric) was fantastic as the teenager turned vampire! Not to mention David (Kiefer Sutherland) he stole every scene he was in!
We hope you enjoy our reaction and commentary as we delve into this Halloween classic. This movie helped shape the portrayal of vampires in pop culture and the film still holds up!
Join us as we explore the world of the undead with a sense of style!

This harks back to my childhood and I'm not Jonathan Harking " vampire humor" the twist at the end is great, and the soundtrack. Fun fact seeing this at 7 Holy water was always around. The frog 🐸 brother were always a jump away. Best vampire movie..but Bella Legosi in Universal 1931 "Dracula" was pretty epic. Twilight nope 🙅🏻 "Interview with a Vampire" great. Bram Stokers "Dracula" okay

The Lost Boys represent orphans adopted by Max after their father drowned at sea chasing a would-be mother, Max's ex wife who also drowned. Watch 'Overboard' with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, plenty of clues linking the four boys to the vampire lore. My friends and I watched Labyrinth, Hairspray (1988) & The Lost Boys countless times as pre-teens. The Lost Boys was the most fun to watch because it had enough hot guys that we didn’t have to fight over who would get to marry David Bowie’s Goblin King 😆 Great reaction to a major blast from the past. When I was 23, my Pop came to my room to ask me if I wanted to see Donald Sutherland's kid play a vampire. Sure, I said. For the next hour and a half, my tongue's hanging out a foot. I have made it my life's work to see everything young Sutherland puts to film and I'm never disappointed. He is the greatest actor of our time. Go beyond the big hits. Look for "Dark City". "Phone Booth". "Last Light" with Forest Whitaker (must see) or "Eye For An Eye" with Sally Field. You won't sleep. This was great fun watching this with you two! So glad you enjoyed it!

Another great reaction! "The Lost Boys" is one of the best vampire movies ever, one of the best 80s movies ever & BY FAR the best movie the 2 Coreys Haim & Feldman, have ever made. Jason Patric, Keifer Sutherland & the Lost Boys were not only gorgeous, they also had the best vampire hair ever! Did any vampires own hair salons in Santa Carla? 🤔🙃😉 As hot as MOST of the vampires were & as cool as the Frog Brothers were, the best character in the movie was Grandpa, who was not only a badass, he also had the best line: "One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach: all the damn vampires." Iconic! Another great movie with Kiefer Sutherland is "A Few Good Men." Kiefer's role was small but crucial. Thanks again! 🧛🦇🩸

@@OfficialMediaKnightsThanks for the kindness! Grandpa is another vampire movie trope: the "lunatic" who knew the truth all along. However, I did miss your response to one of the best lines: "Wait 'til Mom finds out!" Fun Fact: Jami Gertz, who played Star, said that director Joel Schumacher didn't show her in full vamp mode because he didn't think that girls should kill. If I were playing a vampire, I'd want the full treatment, fangs & all! 🦇🩸 Other suggestions: "Fright Night (1985 version)," "Fright Night 2," "Near Dark," "Once Bitten," "Vamp" & "From Dusk Till Dawn," which stars George Clooney, was written by Quentin Tarantino & directed by Robert Rodriguez.

I absolutely LOVE this movie! I never get tired of watching it!!!!! And if no one else haven't already said so a thousand times, Grandpa turned out to be a former vampire hunter. That's why he was so knowledgeable (remember how he looked at Max when he was at the door asking to be "invited" in?) , knew how to make stakes and of course, kill the head vampire at the end. But, he obviously had to stop hunting because of his age. Team Grandpa! 😁

I'm pretty sure the grandpa was a vampire (a good one, without a first kill) at least thats the feeling I got bcs of the dissection hobbie and the "beers" he kept just for him. So...he dissected animals to avoid killing people.

Surprised no one thought to allegorize juvenile delinquency or lost youth using vampirism before this. The classical vampire archetype is both a challenge to accepted mores (ie. sexual, class systems, politics) but all eventually are consumed by the "shadow" personality that is summoned to achieve it. All vampire stories seem to need both "light" and "dark" versions, like this story. Whomever put this together knew what they were doing.

My sisters and I were in our early teens when this came out and I cannot even count the number of times we watched this movie. I was obsessed with Corey Haim (Sam) and had his posters all over my wall from the teen magazines back in the day. RIP Corey. You had so much potential and I’m sorry your life turned out the way it did. 💔

The first time I saw this was shortly after it come out on vhs. I was around 12 when we rented it. The tape was messed up though, and every time Max said, "it's so much easier if you don't fight," the tape would automatically start rewinding. It was very frustrating and took some finagling to finally see the last 2 minutes of the movie.

Thanks for reacting to this film. It holds a special place in my heart. My first horror convention was in 2009 in Indianapolis Indiana. I wanted to go meet the cast of The Lost Boys! I was so excited! I got to meet Corey Haim, Brooke McCarter, Billy Wirth, Chance Michael Corbitt, and G Tom Mac (singer/song writer for Cry Little Sister) everyone was so sweet! Then anytime I would see Brooke or G at a con after, we'd hang out. Some of the most fun I've ever had! RIP Corey. RIP Brooke ❤️

I saw it for the first time in 1988. Yes, somehow we lived in a similar way back in the eighties, always celebrating every day as if it were the last, because you never know when the Cold War will start into a hot War. Except for the fact that we didn't suck people dry, I was in a similar mood to those vampires.😂🎉 Every night turned into day and actually just waited for when the Cold War would turn hot. Of course, I also have this film, like a lot of others, in my collection. I'm also just starting to watch special movies from the eighties again. Last but not least, I've seen some reactions from you and yes, I like it.

Always love how deep you go with your appreciation for a film - writing, lighting (you've even inspired me to notice lighting in film a lot more - it really does have such a powerful effect), acting, directing, I could go on - I'm the same way. I love how you engage with a film. It's great when people enjoy a movie, you guys can articulate what you enjoy so well, I really love that. Just another filmmaking/screenwriting nerd over here ;) Keep doing what you're doing.

My mum showed me this when I was 12. I had already been into Stand By Me and The Goonies for a while at that point and was a die hard Buffy fan so I instantly became obsessed with this movie 🤣 I’m from a small village in Scotland and so seeing the scenery in this movie was just crazy to me, I’m so jealous of anyone who lives where this movie was filmed especially if they got to be there in the 80s. Still to this day my favourite movie of all time. It’s just a vibe from the moment it starts and I love anything 80s. I love everything about this movie and it’s endlessly quotable.

This has always been one of my favorite movies, I saw it when it came out. There is a very interesting story about the actor who did the younger brother, Corey Haim and one of the Frog Brothers, Corey Feldman; they were both prominent childhood victims of Hollywood. As adults A&E I think did a semi-reality show about their relationship called The Two Corey's. Corey Haim was a recovering addict but died at 38 of heart failure and pneumonia that may have been exacerbated by drug use. He was big in the 80's and you should consider watching his amazing performance in Lucas (my favorite), Silver Bullet, Murphy's Romance, License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream. But this is the movie that made him big. Cory Feldman is best known I think for his role in Stand By Me with River Phoenix (that role had originally been offered to Haim) Wil Wheaton, and Jerry O'Connell as well as Keifer Sutherland if you've not reacted to that you DEFINITELY should it is truly a classic coming of age film; one of the best ever, and written by Steven King.

The film is an adaptation of the Peter Man mythos. Max is Pan, the Mom Wendy. Star is Tiger Lilly. The Brothers of Wendy (Michael and John) are Michael and Sam here. Nanook replaces Nana the St. Bernard. And Grandpa is a combination of Hook and Smee. Director Joel Schumacher said it was one of his favorite films of his career. And yes, I saw it in theaters, bought the soundtrack, the poster, then the vhs, the dvd and finally the blu-ray.

You two are lovely, just wanted to say that. This is the ultimate late 80s teen horror movie. There is nothing better, and you got it entirely. The soundtrack is immense also, as you heard. You folks reminded me how fun this movie is. I gravitated away just because I just thought it was silly. But yes: fun! The movie is directed by Joel Schumacher so that totally explains the visuals. Look at any movie after this and you see the similarities. The beach is confirmed to be Santa Cruz. The streets looked very familiar. I used to go there for concerts. Before 2000, the city definitely had problems with junkies. Then rich people started moving into the area and building expensive homes and were working to get that cleaned up. But the atmosphere of the City is very on point for how it's portrayed. Thanks for the reaction!

We saw this back in '87, I don't remember if it was at the theater or once it hit cable. We were somewhat regulars in Santa Cruz which is where most of this film was shot, even some of the rides in the movie on the boardwalk we rode, it was a little weird seeing those areas we visited in a movie. lol This movie still holds up all these years later. Jason Patric was about as close to a Jim Morrison look-alike as you could get, part of the reason why you kept seeing close-ups of the two, including the side by side shot. Dude had very similar facial features, all they had to do was do his hair differently. Anyway, great reaction as always you two, glad you enjoyed it.

I watched this movie when it was released, and even back then, it seemed like very much a time capsule of the era in which it was made. Naturally, as a result, watching it now is always very nostalgic for me, since I grew up during the 1980s, but like I said, there was some self-awareness of this at the time, and people back then loved that about it already.
