9:49 The tech was there, DirectX and OpenGL was there and since September 1999 when Nvidia started Geforce. But because of another Type of processor IBM, they had to "Star Over," the coding but from knowledge of the capacity which the chip was able to accomplish. It took time to get it in the 3d engine. But they didn't make up things. It was existing. Longer pipelines for shadows and direct lighting if that is want you meant. Cool vid.

I love histories behind games that could have been or early stages of development. It's always fun to see how these games turned out and what they might have been instead. The early concept for "Resident Evil 4" was more like the original 3. I'm glad the final product was better. I did not know a lot of this about Luigi's Mansion. Thanks again Lady Decade!

I enjoyed that the original game had some sense of realism and even had a scary atmosphere. In the further releases it was made much more cartoony and toned down, especially the ghosts.

I agree with this. It was stylised but the first game has a legit amazing/creepy automsphere. The sequels, while still really good, lacked that realism and creepiness.

Yeah, I dont think I could see Luigi's Mansion with N64s baked lighting and blob shadows. Good call Nintendo. Luigis mansion was so well done actually, it can hold a candle with some of todays games. Iwas really a graphical marvel for 2001. Some can argue it can be called a graphical marvel for a PS4/Xbox 1 title.

There actually is a neat SM64: Luigi's Mansion hack that set out to recreate Luigi's Mansion in SM64. I'm surprised you didn't mention it, especially considering the N64 angle you were going for LD otherwise nice video

Another quick fact:In the Original Luigi's Mansion for GameCube, if you stood in the Telephone Room, and you wait till lightning strikes, you'll see Luigi's Shadow cast on the wall that looks like he is hanging from a rope. They fixed this in the 3DS edition. How spooky!

Luigi's Mansion was one of my first Nintendo GameCube games and I still have my copy of it. In fact, I was playing that game a few months ago. On the Wii since it has GameCube support. I also have the third game but I'll always love the first. There was also the Nintendo 3DS version but I never played it nor did I have any interest in doing so. Shame I never played Luigi's Mansion; Dark Moon which was the sequel for the 3DS.

Huh. Seems like the time period of 1999-2001 was a rough time for N64 development with the GameCube looming large. One example is easily the original Animal Crossing; Doubutsu no Mori actually did release for the N64 in Japan, but would be expanded and adapted to the GameCube as Animal Crossing for the rest of the world without ever seeing that N64 release, then relocalized back to Japan as Doubutsu no Mori+, then given an expansion with e-Reader compatibility as Doubutsu no Mori e+. Ayo hol' up. "Mario doesn't get surprised"?? Gonna guess that scene in the Super Mario movie where they're havin' to deal with that ornery dog was a total lie, then.🤨🧐🤔 Keep up the fantabulously awesome work you do!!

Knowing I was getting the GC I was disappointed hearing that this was going to be the "Mario" launch title. This game was and still is brilliant. That's down the the gameplay not the name, colour, gender or sexual orientation of the characters. No one wants to watch or play this woke bullshit some game studios get infected with, but the best part is, if they were actually good at their craft, then people will play it and love it lmao places of work have become the new asylums.

For me the game was a failure. Not because it wasn't well designed. No, it was very well designed and I had a great pleasure to play it. However, if you play a game and are playing it slowly to collect everything and you are already finished after 5-6 hours of gameplay, then it has a low return for the money. After I and a friend of mine finished the game, we looked at ourselves, whether it was Nintendo's true intention to release such a short game for the release of the gamecube. We were shocked. There weren't much games for the Gamecube. We wanted to play all night long this game and we were already finished around midnight. What a disgrace. According to our opinion the game needed around double the content it has to be a blockbuster title. So it was only a nice but costly intermezzo.
