Im glad that Mel Fisher was mentioned. I am quite familiar with the story as one of his children is a dear friend of mine. His story is truly amazing on many levels and worth looking into. The family is still searching till this day for the rest of the Atocha treasure and I wish them all the luck in the world. 🍀

The government leaves it up to private investors to spend the time, effort ,danger and expense, just to jump in and claim as much as they can. It's not really government wanting to protect history, as much as they just want to be greedy, without the risks. My humble opinion.

Bob Ballard is worth millions. He gained fame and profited off his discoveries just like any other Salvor would have. The difference is, Salvors usually don't put on an Holier than though act in front of the cameras. They are upfront and honest about wanting the treasure to enrich themselves. Instead of gold and gems, Bob Ballard gets checks for Biography, TV Episodes, Documentaries and Movies.

Never understood the thought between preservation vs historical significance. If a person is buried last week, it is illegal to dig them up, but you find a grave 1000 years old, all the sudden its OK to dig them up claiming historical significance. A ship goes down like the Titanic and it is protected as a grave sight but all the sudden someone finds a ship that went down 1000 year earlier, its OK to remove treasure, artifacts and pieces of ship as historical significance. People are dead in either instance, but humanity and society will make the decision whether its Ok or not do something that is considered wrong regardless of time. I guess it depends on what side of the money your on.

+JessicaTG2008 These thoughts are very confusing, until you realize that there are two kinds of courts...one for the rich and one for the poor. They fix their laws to use them accordingly. Wealth is not money, wealth is not gold. It is not possesions like we are told. Wealth is your goodness that you make enfold. The love you gave and shared is power that you hold. Your wealth is the caring that you have shown. Your wealth is your daughters and your wealth is your sons. It's the sum of your giving of love you have done. By Duke The Fluke This is a part of my patch~quote poem. I only hope for them that they are collecting other treasures that they can sit around and count in that other world where you must Be *LIEV* e to find.

i"m very much in favor of recovering artifacts and riches from the oceans of the world. Whether it"s done by a treasure hunter for personal gain or by an archeologist; it"s of no difference to me other than to say that the hunter will put it all back into circulation while the archeologist will document and then store out of view the bulk of the items never to be seen but by a few...excepting those pieces he salts away for himself, that is.

kjs insaino he might have a little alcohol in him but I don’t think he is high in the video. His eyes look that way because of the glare of the sun off the water. The documentary (long one) about Mel Fisher and his family’s struggle to survive financially until they found the Atocha. The family is still pulling treasure out of the Caribbean and it is a fascinating story. The hell the family had to go through to validate their claim on the Atocha lasted a very LONG time and nearly broke Mel. It’s worth watching the documentary.

Cathy Vanasse hahahaha turning a comment about damaging a shipwreck into a conversation about abortions. Btw I am pro life... and they damaged the ship when the idiot piloting tge robot crashed into a bunch of stuff. Also its not just a hunk of rusted metal, it happens to be the largest underwater GRAVESITE of over 1000 people and should therefore be respected. You dont go to a graveyard and dig up boodies and brake into coffins to look for treasures, thats immoral, a shipwreck should be no different especially when relatives of those people are still alive!

I very much like the mind set of Ballard & his co discoverers. One can see a glimpse of the greed and lack of concern for the artifacts in this video. For example the remarks and damage done by the wealthy investor on the Titanic are absurd. It's quite apparent he did it for his own greed. Not for doing some favour to the public by allowing them to see artifacts. The greed is so much more apparent watching the older treasure hunters. History which lasted for decades and centuries, lost forever.

Awesome technology. To bad the red sea is off limits to Ballards team to document the path of the Israelites when they passed through the Red Sea on dry ground at their exodus from Egypt. The wreckage of Pharroh's chariots were discovered by Ron White in 1984 however the area is "off limits" for exploration for obvious reasons. There is a shallow land bridge 200 ft. below the surface that the Almighty used to traverse the sea. On each side of this subterranian road it drops of on each side to a depth of 1500 ft! That must have been quite a sight! Praise God!

Man I do feel bad for the titanic guys but that the same time, all that gold and necklaces and jewelry that one guy found were also peoples belongings and stuff so seems like fair game🤷‍♂️

I think treasures should be a finders keepers deal but if the finders don't take care to document the site they should be liable to cover cost for someone else to for it to be legit they should try and learn as much as we can from it for example the origin cargo place of origin etc govt should have to follow the SE rules as preserving history is more important than money even if it goes to govt tho I'd agree with a taxing treasure I wouldn't like it if I hit motherload but it's fair for all parties
