This working rig was rescued from deteriorating condition on the lot of Nacogdoches, Texas-based Massey Motor Freight. The 2014 Peterbilt 389 has been modified front to back and inside and out by the team at the tanker- and reefer-hauling fleet. From company logo cutouts in the front grille and breather screens to the long deck plate, lit up like a runway with lights back-of-cab to tail T-bar, the custom work put into this heavy-haul-capable truck is extensive, as company owner Troy Massey describes in this video.
And it's not done yet. Overdrive video editor Lawson Rudisill caught up with Massey at the 2022 Mayberry Truck Show in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, from which Massey takes us on a tour through the rig's many mods, including the lift axle ahead of the tandem drives and sleeper lounge.
And, he noted, while it may look pretty spectacular now, the best is yet to come. "Wait till next show season," he said. "If you think it's great now, just wait."
