Great illustration and message in general, thank you, Bishop! Like the Israel of old, the USA was raised up by God for the purpose of being a blessing to the world in fostering real Christianity. Unfortunately, like Israel of old she dropped the ball Early. Though fleeing religious persecution in the old world it persecuted others who disagreed with the state church until Roger Williams fought and won the battle for religious liberty for all. The idea was later written as the first amendment to the constitution. We all know it or at least, we should know it. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." Slavery was early introduced because of human greed and desire for supremacy. The Holy Bible was used by greedy hyprocites, like it continues to be today to sanction evil. Ignoring the plain biblical teaching that "you are brethren" this evil continued generation after generation for over 300yrs! What a SHAME! In a heathen nation? No, in a professed Christian nation. With the Civil War which a wise woman said God allowed to "punish the South for the sin of slavery and the North for so long suffering to go on..." came emancipation. After emancipation, evil and money-loving men of power-- accountants, politicians, lawyers, judges, teachers came together in secret societies to plan further evils to 'legally' re-enslave their economic bounty. We know the story. Generations of legalised mistreatment of former slaves without let up. Sure a minority against great odds made it but the majority, especiallly of those in the big cities still struggle against great odds. When the Hebrews were freed from Egyptian bondage they came out with plenty. (Review the story if you need to in the Bible book of Exodus.) With how much did Blacks in America come out? No people will prosper without land. Think about it. The comparatively few who acquired land by the mercies of kind hearted folks or hard work were later robbed of it by money loving and unscrupulous haters. Remember, "The love of money is the root of all evil." 1Timothy 6:10. So it's definitely time for this nation to acknowledge its sin against Blacks and the poor and downtrodden and especially for the Christian churches who misrepresent Christ so greatly to publically apologize, repent and exemplify Christ or stop calling themselves Christians. Jesus "went about doing good--teaching, healing, preaching."(Matt.9:35) To be fair, the USA has done much good in the world..enough to get by. So much more can and should be done especially for the ones in this country whom you've mistreated, ignored, marginalized for so very long. However, I pray for the peace of this country as Scripture says we should.
