@@jadecao3686 But you are wrong. Nabokov wrote Lolita in 1955 and Duras wrote l'Amant (the Lover) in 1984. The only difference is that for the Lover is an autobiography of Marguerite Duras. The girl is actually her.

The movie would be better with a happy ending, in which he married her or something. But since it was based on a real story... even more sad.

***** I don´t know, maybe thats true. But if the movie wasn´t based on a true story, I would say the whole point would just be that such a movie is supposed to promote the idea that such romances can have no happy endings at all.

The real life relationship was far less romantic, it was more of a brief fling with no emotional connection. The young girl (who authored the book) described the feeling of sex with him as "the aftermath of rape" and felt it was revolted.

I discovered this film just yesterday but i fell in love with it not because of the hot scenes it’s because of the story. It’s a very heartbreaking ending, the guy really loves the girl even if they all started with lust but he continued to love him until he die... what a very loyal and lovable man he is 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Don't we all start with lust? I hope so😉 She loved him too all right. Impossible not to cry at the end if you get that. It's a shame they didn't get to be together, but I'm glad they got to know this special, unforgettable love before going on with their destined lives. Too many people never get to, even with the people they marry.

The Lover is a Franco-British film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, released in 1992. It is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Marguerite Duras, published in 1984. At 70, Marguerite Duras recounts her adolescence in Indochina and her “hidden periods”. The author evokes the difficult relationship with her mother, the love she has for her little brother, her physical attraction for a friend at boarding school, and in particular her relationship with a Chinese man twelve years older than her.

The parting ship from the land is very meaningful for me, like sad that she is living someone special but the clear skies and happy people on the ship promised a better life for her in Paris, as I watched the scene I also felt like leaving an old sad life to a much better life, powerful. I love the deepness of this film.

They both had their own issues. Is it really love if it is not reciprocated? Would he love her had she been older and not as beautiful? She shall miss the adventure but he shall miss her image. They don't miss each other. They miss only the things that surround the interior.

He loved her youth, initially, as he declared his love for her having not known anything about her. He may have fallen for her eventually, but he did so knowing in his heart that he would never truly be with her., so loving her would have no real repercussions. They were both just distracting each other in the end, her from her poverty, him from his lack of direction.

Jane March was an erotic goddess at her time, and it's sad that she did not more movies. On the other hand, things are more precious when they are rare.

I was 21 when I saw this in the theaters in NYC. I, too, had an affair with an older man who loved me deeply & enough to take an incredibly dangerous risk. I was 13, he 35 & my parents close friend. Say what you will, I know you will. But I loved him & he loved me. He left the state for a job overseas. And I know now it was because of me. We never saw each other again. He left me with love kindness & warmth that I needed. I’m forever grateful for the experience.

Would you be OK with your 13-year-old daughter doing this with a 35-year-old man? I can't imagine any mother being anything less than outraged and horrified.

Same here ! Married a Japanese man 4 years ago and never regretted ! I love him with every single drops of myself he is everything I needed in my life : gorgeous, sensitive, excellent lover,caring,loving...everyrhing I never had dating Caucasians or Latinos or others...Asian men needs more attention amd consideration not only they are gorgeous but they have no shame in showing their feelings, sensitivity and appreciation. Really this man I married is the love of my life ♡ And I married him I was only 26 and him 29 now I am 30 and him 33 still in love as the first day ♡ we are just the perfect 2 and never got hurt with him ♡

If you searced it you'll see that it actually never happened. A lot of what she says were confirmed lies and the lover came in many versions through other works of her.
