It breaks my heart everytime I hear about our fallen servicemen, thank you for your service to all branches of military, especially the Marine Corps, you will be forever honored. Today is the 100th anniversary of the US Marine victory over the Germans at Belleau Wood in World War I, if anyone didn't know.

Legendary Father Im like you, I was the first one in my family to join the Marine Corps back in 1973. But to this day Im the only one to be in the Marine Corps. My family young & old, US Army during WW-1 WW-2 , Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm and The War on Terrorism. To be honest it's kinda cool to be the only Leatherneck in the family. Semper Fi, from an old Marine Sgt.

. . . and it is especially appropriate that our Corps has published this video on 6 June 2018; seventy-fours years ago, on this very day, our older brothers-in-arms were engaged in fierce, mortal combat in Normandy to free an enslaved Europe from Nazi tyranny. That may seem to be long ago, but the sacrifices required to maintain America’s freedom continue unabated, as indicated by the ongoing war against Islamic terrorism and the ceaseless requirements to defend the United States from rouge dictatorships, such as North Korea, Iran and Russia.

an old military funeral poem by Ludwig Uhland (from 1807) is called THE GOOD COMRADE. This poem describes the pain of losing a friend on the battlefield. I feel like there lies an eternal truth in the words written by Uhland back over 200 years ago. And more important this song/poem should be the worldwide minimum standard played at servicemen funerals. RIP comrades. THE GOOD COMRADE (1807) I once had a comrade, You will find no better one. The drum called us to battle, He walked by my side, In the same pace and step. A bullet came a-flying, Is it my turn or yours? He was swept away, He lies at my feet, As if he was a part of me. He still reaches out his hand to me, When I am about to reload. I cannot hold your hand my friend, You stay in eternal life My good comrade. My good comrade.

I will forever and always remember my fallen brothers. Everyday that passes, now more than ever as a civilian, I see their faces and remember them. It is a weight that I carry with me every day, and a weight that is indescribably heavy, sometimes bordering on over encumbering. But we live on, and we carry the weight with gratitude and love in our hearts. The best of us truly leave young and good. The loving are the daring.

At Ft Sam Houston for a few weeks with The Millenial Army. We are going to war soon, again. Half these corpsman will not be functional in 5 years. But there is something. When we had family day, something strange happened. When our loved ones came it took about an hour for the silence to drift. The unspoken dialogue was, honey, I love you, you are safe but I must go where you cannot. I must go and train and this tiny bit of bittersweet freedom must end, for I must train. For the more I swear not the less my men will bleed later. God speed
