She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love:
A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye!
-Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky.
She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
The difference to me!

I'm thinking she had a full life in spite of the isolation of her circumstances; or as much as circumstances would allow, Perhaps it was in her sweet nature to accept her lot and put her hands to useful work. We'll never know but in my mind's eye I see her as not leading an empty life but mourned by some few and easily forgotten. The fate of most of us.
