according to kaye ballard, vivian hated the name ethel, and people would say, "hey ethel!!" on the street, but with lucy they'd say, "hey, lucy!!" so, when she signed up for the new show, she stipulated that her name be "viv". later, she gave kaye ballard advise "don't get stuck with a name you hate, because people will call you that forever. when desi arnaz produced The Mothers In Law, kaye insisted on being named "kaye", so then eve arden insisted on being "eve", then roger carmel and herb rudley and jerry fogel followed suit.

Kenpo Grandmaster Ed Parker in all his early glory! back in those days, he had lots of Hollywood contacts, and among other things, he held tournaments at Long Island Beach, California, and discovered an amazing martial artist, who went on to really big events-his name was Bruce Lee, and the rest was history! Ed Parker was the real deal, and faithful to his Kenpo system! In 1991 a year after his death, Paramount Pictures released "THE PERFECT WEAPON" with Kenpo expert Jeff Speakman, as the movie was a tribute to Ed Parker and his history! born Edmond Kealoha Parker, he grew up on the mean streets of Kalihi on Oahu and learned his amazing martial art from one of two masters whose names escape me, but his friendship with Blake Edwards was well known, as well his major pupil and close friend, the late Elvis Pressley! Ed Parker was also a fighting consultant on Sheldon Leonard's NBC series, "I SPY" (1965-68) and had an uncredited appearance in Columbia Pictures' "THE WRECKING CREW", the fourth and final of The Matt Helm adventures with Dean Martin, and the last movie of Sharon Tate before she was slaughtered in August 1969 by the women of Charles Mason's insane cult that made national headlines. his favorite pupil Bruce Lee was hired by Irving Allen, which explains his and Chuck Norris' appearance on the 1969 movie. Blake Edwards also used Ed Parker in "REVENGE OF THE PINK PANTHER" (1978) and "THE CURSE OF THE PINK PANTHER" (1983) he played a Ninja called "Mr. Chong from Hong Kong", but among one of Ed Parker's more impressive movies was a 1979 film he did called "KILL THE GOLDEN GOOSE" where he fought Hapkido grandmaster Bong Soo Han- a true martial arts showdown! his appearance on this 1963 episode of "THE LUCY SHOW" was one of a few, but he also appeared on "I SPY" in "Court Of The Lion" and on another episode of the series since he was the show's fighting consultant. he also appeared as a guest star on "THE COURTSHIP OF EDDIE'S FATHER" as a Karate instructor. a magnificent martial artist in every sense of the word, he is greatly missed!
@stlrockn5 жыл бұрын
Bruce Lee was NOT Ed Parker's pupil...furthermore Bruce Lee was the fight coordinator for the movie "The Wrecking Crew" where he taught martial arts to Dean Martin and Sharon Tate. There are photos of him training them.

@@stlrockn No problem here. my info is subject to correction, but Ed Parker was an amazing martial artist! his Kenpo style of fighting was an impressive system, while Bruce Lee's "Jeet Kune Do"- or, "way of the intercepting fist" was also an astonishing feat as well! the other commenter also corrected me about Long Beach, but Irving Allen, the Columbia Pictures producer of Dean Martin's "Matt Helm" movies had hired Bruce Lee as a "Karate Advisor", which, I'm sure to Mr. Lee, was an insult, but, not as compounding as the one that Quentin Tarantino used when Mike Moh played Lee (in his "Kato" costume, which was inaccurate-among other facts that Tarantino twisted and distorted, because "THE GREEN HORNET" TV series that 20th Century Fox Television produced with Greenway Prods. was already canceled in March 1967, NOT 1969, that "ONCE UPON A TIME,,IN HOLLYWOOD" had attempted to exploit, which was around the time period that Bruce Lee was working on "THE WRECKING CREW" movie as the consultant.

The truth behind the judo: Mrs. Lucille Ball Morton and Mrs. Viv Vance were both judo experts, having studied the martial arts since the 1930's. They played it for laughs on this show but their real skills were no laughing matter. Lucy threw Chuck Norris over 40 feet. Viv studied classical jiu jitsu, attaining the rank of Black Belt. This information comes from a stage hand on the show, who had to quit because Lucy kept picking on him and nearly broke his back.

True except I Love Lucy was never cancelled. Lucy & Desi chose to discontinue the series. They'd been trying to end it for several years, but CBS kept talking them into continuing. They finally got their way after six seasons, but continued for another three years, along with Vivian Vance and William Frawley, in the hour-long specials, later known as the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. So nine years total. The specials ended when Lucy and Desi divorced. But Desi talked her into The Lucy Show after that.
